The nominees for the 2018 Mercury Prize have been revealed, with Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine and Lily Allen all featuring in the 12 shortlisted acts.
The current favourites to win are the Arctics, Florence and Noel Gallagher with bookies William Hill posting odds of 4/1.
The nomination marks the fourth for Arctic Monkeys, with the Sheffield band winning the 2006 prize for Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.
They returned to the scene in May this year with concept album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, although fans were divided over frontman Alex Turner’s sudden change of track from guitar rifts to glam rock.
Florence and the Machine celebrate their third nomination, this time for their fourth album, High As Hope.
And Liam Gallagher will no doubt be seething over ‘our kid’s’ first solo nomination after the brothers were shortlisted twice as Oasis.
Picked by a panel of 12 expert judges from the music bizz, more than 200 albums were under consideration for the prestigious award which celebrates achievement across various genres.
