Lil Nas X has broken Mariah Carey‘s record for longest-running No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his hit song, “Old Town Road.”
When the country rapper’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, maintained its lead for the 17th consecutive week, it surpassed the record that was jointly shared by Carey, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.
Carey was the first to congratulate Lil Nas X for his achievement.
“Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in music history,” the “Songbird Supreme” tweeted.
“We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life,” she added.
Carey also posted a photo symbolically showing her passing a torch to Lil Nas X.
The rapper instantly replied by reposting her tweet on Instagram, writing, “Legend” and posting a heart emoji.
