Madonna ‘ignored signs of illness’ before landing in ICU ahead of tour

Madonna’s family ‘prepared for worst’ after singer rushed to ICU

After being admitted to the intensive care unit with a bacterial infection, it’s been reported Madonna “ignored” signs that she was unwell during rehearsals for her highly anticipated world tour.

Although the Material Girl singer is currently recovering from the shock infection, she was found “unresponsive” on June 24 and later intubated after being rushed to the hospital.

However, insiders have blamed Madonna’s tireless work ethic, which saw her continuing to rehearse despite feeling unwell.

The source claimed: “She ignored some symptoms of illness for quite a while because she thought they would go away. But she didn’t want to take time away from rehearsals.”

“She was run down and not feeling 100 percent for a while in anticipation of her tour.”

Speaking to PEOPLE, the insider added: “She is relentless in her quest to be the best, to wow her fans and to do what others before her have not done.

“Madonna has been very busy for a long time and not taking care of herself. She just continues to push herself beyond the limit.”

The 64-year-old’s health scare was first revealed by her manager Guy Oseary who promised Madonna’s Celebration world tour will have a new start date.

Following the initial tour announcement in January, the performer has been fiercely rehearsing and would often share a glimpse of the preparations on social media.

In his post, Guy insisted Madonna is “expected to make a full recovery” and shared her “health is improving”, but added that she is “still under medical care.”

Although he didn’t elaborate on when the singer will be ready to take the stage, he wrote: “At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.”

The talent manager promised to “share more details as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows”.

The Celebration tour was supposed to kick off in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday, July 15 and conclude on January 30, 2024, at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico.

With 84 dates Madonna had the gruelling task of performing across the USA, UK, and Europe with up to six shows in London, England.

However, following her health scare it seems likely the star will be forced to dramatically scale back the seven-month-long tour.

An insider criticised: “Considering what Madonna has just been through, and considering she is 64, was it really sensible to book so many tour dates in the first place?

“This schedule would be gruelling for even the youngest and fittest of artists.”
