Ovie to you: Ovie Soko continued to warm the hearts of the nation as he made his This Morning debut on Thursday ahead of his first cooking segment
Ovie began the morning by discussing some of his villa highlights, including revealing why he used to store his hat collection in the freezer.
After making quite the entrance into the studio, being carried in by the world’s strongest woman Andrea Thompson, Ovie was quizzed on his trademark catchphrase.
Ovie would always shout ‘message’ in an American accent after his fellow Islanders declared ‘I’ve got a text’.
Discussing the origins of it, he explained: ‘It came from a movie that I watched when I was a bit younger [Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood]. It’s wild that it’s caught on.’
The star added that he was originally told not to say it all, confessing: ‘When I first said it a couple of the islanders were like “no, that’s not the thing, you’re not supposed to say that.”‘

As well as being beloved for his catchphrase, Ovie also sent fans wild with one iconic villa scene, which saw him nonchalantly retrieve his hat from the freezer whilst cooking breakfast.
Quizzed about the bizarre move, he casually relayed: ‘I mean, it just made sense. We’re in the heat, you need to keep your head protected, cool head, pop your hat in the freezer.
‘And it was just convenient – if you have hats all around the villa you never have to run back to the bedroom every time. There was always one within arms reach.’

Despite quickly becoming the nation’s most beloved Islander, Ovie insisted that he was never anything but himself, and gave advice to next year’s crop of contestants.
‘Be yourself’, he mused. ‘That’s probably my biggest advice. I didn’t have any angles going in.
‘I went in because of my big brother, he was like, “you’d be great on that show!” It’s a really good feeling but there’s definitely some confusion, I was just myself!’
Ovie’s mother Foluso echoed his sentiments as the camera cut to her proudly watching her son’s interview, as she reasoned: ‘I think Ovie was just Ovie.
‘When I see him do things, I say “that’s him”, I wont take the credit! I was just God’s grace upon his life.’
