Love Island’s Haris ‘not a bad boy’ and ‘fight’ was ‘misunderstanding’, says dad

The father of Haris Namani has hit out after his son was reportedly dumped from Love Island after footage emerged of him in a fight with another man.

Haris, 21, hit headlines this week after a video came to light of a man, now identified as Haris, throwing punches with a man in the street on a night out. It's been said he was dumped from the villa as part of a planned eviction.

Speaking out for the first time, his father, Mehedin Namani, has insisted that the footage is actually "two years old" and slammed the idea that his son is a "thug".

Haris' father defended his son as he insisted that the altercation was a "misunderstanding" and that Haris and the man in question are "okay" with each other.

He told the Daily Mail: "The kid who Haris punched is okay with with him now. It was a misunderstanding at that time. If you were speak with the kid who it was, the kid would not have anything bad to say about Haris.

"I don't think he would be happy about the video. He's very known around here and he's a few year older than Haris. And he's a popular kid."

In the video obtained by The Sun, which was originally posted on Snapchat, Haris can be seen with another man as the pair hold their hands up in a boxing stance.

They then attempt to throw punches at each other, before Haris lands one. The reality star then knocks the man down with another punch while shouting: "I'm not a bully, I'm not a f***ing bully," as his friend, who is filming, says: "Go on Haris."

"On my mum's life…" he adds before the footage ends.

Haris has reportedly been dumped the villa –though his exit is yet to air on the ITV2 show.

He will be the second person to leave the South African abode, after David Salako's early exit last week.

A souce said of Haris's exit: "Haris was booted off Love Island last night. There was a dumping and he got the chop. It is, in part, a relief for the show's bosses in light of the video of Haris in a street fight.

A Love Island spokesperson said: “We would never comment on dumpings or show formats to avoid ruining the show for the viewers.”

Haris' time on the show has been somewhat controversial already, after host Maya Jama called him out after he baffled fans after saying women with feet over size five are a "turn off".
