‘What’s the worst that can happen?’ Lisa Faulkner likens her upcoming ‘no-nonsense’ role on EastEnders as a ‘baptism’ as she reveals filming is well underway for the popular soap
She announced she was joining the cast of Eastenders last week.And Lisa Faulkner – who also doubles up as a TV chef – couldn’t help but gush about her upcoming role of Fi Browning on the long-running BBC soap this Spring as she made a very stylish appearance on ITV’s Lorraine on Thursday.’I started filming a couple of days ago and it’s a bit of baptism,’ the multi-talented star, 45, explained to Christine Lampard about her new acting venture, which sees her taking on the part of a ‘no-nonsense businesswomen.’

‘Everyone’s really lovely and it came completely out of the blue,’ Lisa, who was dressed in a figure-flattering swirly patterned dress, continued.’I was expecting to do my recipes and then the producers called me up to meet them and he sold this character to me.
‘They said let’s just see what happens and I thought, “why not? Jump in. What’s the worst that can happen?,”‘ she contemplated.Expressing her excitement at the new role, Lisa stated: ‘She’s a great character, I’m looking forward to playing her.’Despite remaining tight-lipped about Lisa’s character, executive producer Sean O’Connor has teased that the London native will be a ‘no-nonsense but sophisticated business woman’, who has her ‘sights’ set on another Walford resident.
Initially speaking about her new gig, Lisa revealed: ‘I’m so happy to be joining the cast of EastEnders – it’s an iconic show and I can’t wait to play my part in it!’
Continuing on, she stated: ‘Fi Browning is a hugely exciting character and I’m really looking forward to working with Sean and all the team, and revealing more about her. I can’t say any more now as I’m sworn to secrecy, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.’
Sean also added: ‘I’m really thrilled that we have been able to tempt Lisa Faulkner back to TV drama and back to the BBC.’She’s an extremely accomplished and hugely popular actress and we’re very excited to have her in Albert Square.’
Hinting at her story line further, he stated: ‘Fi Browning is something of a departure for EastEnders; a no-nonsense but sophisticated business woman with strength and vulnerability. But does she have an agenda? And who – or what – has she set her sights on?’
Despite initially being scouted as a model at the age of 16, Lisa made the smooth transition into an on-screen star with roles in Holby City, Spooks and Death In Paradise.The blonde star, whose partner is TV chef John Torode, went onto win Celebrity Masterchef in 2010 and has gone on to front a number of food-related projects.
She has also co-hosted a TV show called Real Food Family Cook Off and has released her own cookery books.
It follows the casting of former Blue singer Lee Ryan, 33, who will play bad boy Woody and is expected to appear on screens in the coming weeks.The singer says he is ‘excited’ about his short stint in the BBC soap, which will kick off this spring, adding: ‘Woody is the best role I could have wished to play.’
