Lana Del Rey has covered Donovan‘s 1966 folk-rock hit “Season of the Witch” for the new film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
Del Rey’s version of the song was released last Friday, the same day the film hit theaters.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a horror film directed by André Øvredal and based on the children’s book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz. Guillermo del Toro co-produced and co-wrote the movie.
“I have admired Lana’s music for a while now and felt in my gut that she would run with ‘Season of the Witch’ — that she would use her alchemy to transform it,” del Toro said in a statement.
“She is a great artist and has been an amazing partner with us in this adventure,” he added. “It is an honor for me to have met her.”
The cover dropped three weeks before Del Rey’s sixth studio album, Norman F**ing Rockwell, which arrives on August 30. She recently announced the first leg of a North American tour.
