Katy Perry knocked out by gas fumes filming American Idol in dramatic footage

Katy Perry was knocked out by powerful gas fumes after a leak caused havoc on set of American Idol.

The pop star is seen looking woozy as she warns first responders "I'm not feeling too good".

Seconds later, she crumples to the ground dramatically in her high heels, landing on her side.

Sunday's episode of the show will show the shocking scenes as the judges notice a strong gas smell in the studio.

As the situation escalates, the entire studio with all the auditionees is evacuated as it floods with dangerous propane gas.

Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie talk outside of the building, where they comment that the smell is still incredibly strong.

Firefighters arrive, sirens blaring, and run into the venue.

At the start of the footage, Katy exclaims: "Do you guys smell gas? It’s pretty intense."

Country music star Luke, 43, tells the show's producers: "We’re getting heavy propane."

Katy starts feeling a little woozy and says: "I have a slight headache from it. Oh it’s bad, it’s really bad."

Sirens are then heard in the background as emergency services rush to the studio as crew and contestants are evacuated from the building.

Luke informs viewers as they assemble outside: "This is not a joke, there really is a gas leak."

It is all too much for Katy though and she dramatically collapses to the floor after declaring: "I’m not feeling good."

It has been some start to the 18th season of the singing competition, with 70-year-old Lionel Richie already giving possibly the most brutal put down of the series.

He was in no mood to take prisoners as he spoke his mind, telling hopeful Nick Merico straight about his chances.

The singing legend was not forgiving, telling Nick: "I don't like you."

He then continued: "I’ve got to be honest with you, I don’t like you. And for some weird reason, it’s not sitting well with me.

"I don’t like your voice. I’m being very honest. I don’t like your attitude. And I don’t really think you’re going to make it in Hollywood.”
