Screen queen: The TV star, 44, videoed herself before, during and after the procedure showing how her filler is injected and exclaimed afterwards that she had luxurious lips
Commenting after the procedure, Katie told her followers: ‘I love them’ before blowing a kiss to the camera and exclaiming ‘Luxurious lips!’
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Aesthetics nurse at @am.aesthetics, Alexandra Haq gave her expert opinion on the butterfly lips trend saying: ‘The technique involves vertical injections of lip filler to add height to the lips and define the Cupid’s Bow in the same way as Russian lips.
‘After the filler has been injected, the lips are strip-taped, with the goal of preventing filler migration, and allowing the filler to settle in position giving the lips high-definition.
‘An interesting step used in some butterfly lip filler treatments is the use of Hylase (filler dissolver injections) immediately before re-injecting fresh lip filler.
‘After dissolving, a spatula is used to push the ‘melted’ filler down into the lips and to prevent the newly injected lip filler from migrating.
She warned: ‘The use of Hylase and dermal filler in the same appointment as well as injecting filler into the lips vertically makes the butterfly lip technique a higher-risk treatment.
‘When Hylase has been used, you are more likely to have an uneven result, filler migration and severe swelling that can compress blood vessels and compromise blood supply.
‘The added use of tape which contains the swelling may also cause significant local pressure on the lip tissue, prolonging the recovery period and again increasing the risk of compromised blood supply.’
Controversial: Katie got her lips done back in February, and at the time Harley Street clinic owner Dr Mohamed Hamed warned Katie’s fanbase of the potential risks
Plump it up: Katie is no stranger to having a bit of nip and tuck and has had procedures which include rhinoplasty, a silhouette facelift, 3D, veneers, lip fillers and Botox
Speaking about Katie’s lips, who shared via her socials that she had filler back in February, Alex Haq added: ‘Examining the photo of Katie’s lips I can state based on my clinical experience that the lips are over-filled, which has led to a loss of the natural ratio between the size of the upper and lower lip, their shape and colour.’
‘The butterfly lip uses a method of injecting a lip filler that increases the risk to the patient as the filler is placed in a way that tents the skin and increases pressure to surrounding critical vessels. This is compounded by Katie having lip filler a few short months ago.’
