John Mayer promises he’s not the guy he used to be.
The “New Light” singer is very well aware of his bad boy reputation but is insisting now that he’s changed his ways.
“Some people still say, ‘That guy’s a d–k,’” Mayer told Billboard. “And I go, ‘Well, any of that data you’re working off of is really old.’ I mean, I can tell you for sure that I haven’t been a d–k in many years. That’s a really outdated take.”
Mayer attributed some of his ruder tendencies to the fact that he thought there was nothing beyond his grasp.
“I probably had a run in my life where I wasn’t aware that there was anything I couldn’t have. And it made a monster out of me,” he said. “And there’s something very freeing about you can’t. And that’s about the right age in your life where you go, ‘Yeah, you can’t.’”
Mayer’s “d–k” reputation came after he made various comments about his sex life, including calling ex Jessica Simpson “sexual napalm.” Mayer purchased a house in Montana to shed his ego and focus on his music. The reputation rehab appears to have worked, as Mayer has become close friends with a variety of stars, including Bob Saget and “Boy Meets World” alum Danielle Fishel. The 41-year-old crooner recently attended each of their weddings, posting various photos and sharing his congratulations and best wishes.
