Jennifer Lopez almost didn't wear Versace dress that birthed Google Images

Jennifer – who is currently filming the stripper revenge movie Hustlers – explained: ‘My stylist goes, “I think you should wear the white dress, because three people have worn this dress – Donatella herself. It’s been seen, this is the Grammys, you’ve got to wear something else.”‘

The dress – which, along with Liz Hurley’s safety pin dress, made Versace a household name – had been worn on the catwalk by Amber Valletta, by designer Donatella Versace at the 1999 Met Gala, and even by Geri Horner (nee Halliwell) a month before JLo wore it.

However, JLo’s manager Benny Medina thankfully convinced her to wear the jungle-print number – with the only worry being whether the star could stay covered.

The Love Don’t Cost A Thing singer said: ‘The only concern was whether or not my boobs were going to pop out on stage, or anywhere along the way, because it was so low-cut.’

However, they employed a whole lot of double-sided tape, with Jennifer adding: ‘There was never any danger of that, I was so securely stuck into that thing, there was gonna be no mishaps.’

When Jennifer walked the red carpet, all eyes were on her – but she didn’t realise how much of an impact it would have.

When she went on stage to present an award with David Duchovny, the pair received ‘an ovation for standing there’, with The X-Files actor joking: ‘This the first time in five or six years I know nobody is looking at me.’

Jennifer said: ‘It just goes to show you the power of fashion, and the power of those type of moments. I know people try to make it frivolous at times, but what those things do is they give people inspiration, it puts a beautiful moment out into the world. One dress can change the trajectory of how people dress for the next ten years.’

And it changed the trajectory of how we look for pictures online, as Google Images was actually inspired by Jennifer’s frock.

In 2015, Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt said: ‘At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: J.Lo wearing that dress.

‘Our co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin — like all other successful inventors — kept iterating. They started with images.

After all, people wanted more than just text. This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world’s attention.’

Jennifer joked about her dress birthing a tool we use pretty much every day, saying: ‘I’m just wondering where’s my cheque?’

At the end of the video, Jennifer revealed she will be wearing Versace at this year’s Met Gala, as she mourned the loss of Versace designer and tailor Luigi Massi, who died earlier this month aged 56.
