You tell ’em, Jeannie Mai!
On Thursday’s episode of The Real things got a little extra real when the co-host clapped back at some racism she had recently experienced.
It all started when she and boyfriend Jeezy were photographed on the red carpet together. She revealed to a shocked audience:
“When Jeezy and I were in fashion week just recently and there were pictures posted, I saw in the comments on other blogs a couple times of like, ‘Don’t be catching that coronavirus Jeezy.’ Or, ‘she got that corona that latched him in.’ And that’s so hurtful because there are actually people that are dying from this.”
Wow. How ignorant can you get!
The coronavirus, a new disease which has claimed just over 1,000 lives as of this writing, began spreading in China — but it is not an Asian virus. It is a human virus. You’re not more likely to have it if you’re Chinese, you’re more likely to get it if you’re IN CHINA, where it’s circulating most, no matter what race you are.
Thankfully Jeannie wasn’t interested in calling out a few individual dumb asses but rather educating everyone a little more. She continued:
“And I also heard that there are schools that are considering to quarantine Asian kids because they just want to keep it safe. This is real life out there. So I just want to say, we know that misinformation coupled with fear leads to xenophobia. Xenophobia is a deep-rooted fear against foreigners. We just got to do better and know that when it comes to yourself, educate yourself so that you don’t give life to fears.”
Hear, hear!
