The ‘You’re Beautiful’ crooner reveals to a British host in a new TV interview that he has found a matching organ transplant for his gravelly-ill father Charles Blount.
AceShowbiz –James Blunt has found a kidney donor for his sick father after appealing to fans for help.
The “You’re Beautiful” singer made the appeal on “Good Morning Britain” in October, revealing he wasn’t a match for his dad Charles Blount, who needs an organ transplant due to chronic kidney disease.
Appearing on “Lorraine“, its sister show on U.K. network ITV, on Tuesday, December 10, James revealed that he believes his Charles’ hunt for a kidney is over thanks to the help he received from fans.
“My father has chronic kidney disease,” he explained. “But actually, remarkably a couple of people have come forward and offered him a kidney and we are pretty sure we have found a match. I’m touching lots of wood, that we might be in a good place.”
The British musician also added that it was an “amazing experience” hearing “other people’s stories” after going public with his dad’s illness.
James recorded a song about his father, “Monsters”, for his new album “Once Upon a Mind”, and said it was terrifying playing it for his sick dad.
“People talk about the nervousness about putting your album out and whether the critics will receive it well,” he shared. “But writing a song for my father and playing to him was much more nerve-wracking.
“I took him upstairs, and said ‘come on dad’. Put some headphones on, and pressed play. He tapped his feet, slightly out of time, and put his hand on my knee and said ‘so true.’ Then (it) finished and we went back to normal conversation afterwards.”
James has released “Monsters” as a single, with all the proceeds from its sale going to U.K. armed forces charity Help for Heroes. The singer-songwriter has long been a supporter of the charity, as both he and his father served in the British military.
