Howard Stern was dealing with cancer scare during shocking 2017 ‘personal day’

After downplaying his shocking “personal day” in 2017, Howard Stern has revealed he was actually in surgery having a growth on his kidney checked for cancer.

In May 2017, the internet went wild with theories after the SiriusXM host took a mysterious day off work, which according to fans, had never happened before without warning. Concerned listeners took to Reddit to theorize why Stern was unexpectedly absent, ranging from the passing of his parents to marriage problems with wife Beth Stern.

But Beth, 46, told The Post at the time, “Everything is great. He’s coming back on Monday. He had to take a personal day, that’s all.”

The following Monday, Stern, 65, came into work and downplayed the situation.

“Why was it such a big deal that I took a f–king day off?” he said. “I wanted to take off today because my voice is still shot, but I was afraid to. I felt so f–king guilty.”

Now, almost two years to the day later, Stern told The Hollywood Reporter it was actually a cancer scare that sidelined him from work. A growth was discovered on his kidney with a 90 percent chance of it being cancerous, he said.

“And now all I’m thinking is, ‘I’m going to die,’” he said. “And I’m scared s–tless.”

Following the surgery, he learned the growth was thankfully a benign cyst and that his heath was fine.

And luckily for fans, he has yet to take another personal day since.
