Donald Trump would love for his Supreme Court pick to go through quickly and quietly.
But thanks to some protesters outside the confirmation hearing, people are paying attention again.
The women of a group called Demand Justice are standing silently but making noise with their outfits — handmaid garb from the Emmy-winning The Handmaid’s Tale, in which women are turned into little more than subservient broodmares for men, as all their rights are stripped away.
That says pretty much all you need to know about what they believe Brett Kavanaugh will do on the court, but in a statement to The Hill, they explained further:
“Brett Kavanaugh is an extremist ideologue who, if confirmed to the Supreme Court, will take away women’s basic rights. Right now in America, far too many women of color cannot access safe, affordable healthcare and the ability to decide whether, when and how to raise thriving families is out of reach. Brett Kavanaugh will take this already harsh reality and make it worse.”
Kavanaugh and his supporters have been eerily silent too, hiding much of what he has written from the public AND from the senators they expect to confirm him.
What we do know is Kavanaugh was handpicked by a group looking to remove LGBT protections and make abortion illegal again.
And when you consider what Trump said in the Presidential debate (below) that if he got “two or perhaps three justices” on the court he would overturn Roe v. Wade, it’s pretty darn clear what’s going on.
