Fleetwood Mac duo compared to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton

They’re two of the most famously tempestuous on/off showbiz couples – so it’s apt that Mick Fleetwood compares Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham’s relationship to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s.

Fleetwood Mac tour are currently touring without Lindsey, after he left the group following a feud with Stevie, who was reportedly unhappy with him “smirking” behind her while she delivered a speech on stage.

Now, Mick says: “It is no secret that Lindsey and Stevie are in a continuum Liz Taylor/Richard Burton type of life, and it went in and out of valleys and mountaintops and God knows what through the years.”

Mick says the idea of Lindsey continuing in the band was “too challenging”, and admits the group were “not happy” – but he rejects the suggestion that Lindsey was “fired”.

Last year, Lindsey filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates claiming he was kicked out of the group, which was settled.

“The truth is, call it what you want, a parting of company took place,” continues Mick to Mojo.

“And it had to take place, and it was supported by the remaining band members around something that for sure was a major problem between two people – Lindsey and Stevie.”

Crowded House singer Neil Finn has replaced Lindsey, along with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell.
