Coronation Street fans fume at This Morning’s Sharon Marshall as she reveals huge star is leaving the soap 26 years after his first appearance

Coronation Street fans were left fuming at This Morning’s soap expert Sharon Marshall after she revealed Martin Hancock is quitting the show.

Sharon, 51, has a regular soap slot on the ITV daytime show and let slip that Martin, who plays Spider, is leaving the soap 26 years after he made his first appearance.

Although the presenter did warn fans she was giving away a spoiler and told them to cover their ears, some still didn’t take kindly to finding out ahead of time.

One unimpressed viewer wrote on Twitter: ‘So Spider’s gone! Thanks very bloody much!’

Another wrote: ‘Thank you for totally spoiling #Corrie Sharon Mashall – you totally gave stuff away more than a ‘teaser”.

A third viewer added: ‘You’re not teasing Sharon, you’re spoiling,’ while another wrote: ‘I hope you don’t ruin EastEnders’.

A fifth fan added: ‘Sharon ruined Emmerdale when she was a writer on it… hopefully she’ll not damage EastEnders which she is writing on now’.

Martin will make his final appearance as Spider on Wednesday’s episode before bowing out of Weatherfield.

Speaking to The Sun about leaving, he said: ‘I’d like to think that Spider is leaving with unfinished business. From chatting with people, I think there is some unfinished business but not immediately.”

‘I’ve enjoyed coming back immensely. When I was younger, I was a bit too enamoured with the party scene!

‘It’s nice to come back as an older and wiser person and really enjoy it for what it is, which is a great show with great people.’

It comes after Coronation Street fans were left unimpressed with Spider Nugent’s kidnapping storyline on the soap.

Following his return to the cobbles, Spider (Martin Hancock) was revealed to be an undercover cop.

Reaction: Although the presenter did warn fans she was giving away a spoiler and told them to cover their ears, some still didn’t take kindly to finding out ahead of time

On Monday’s episode, viewers watched as Spider was desperate to find Toyah (Georgia Taylor) who was still held hostage in the back of a van.

He eventually figured out the kidnapper was a woman named Maggie whose husband Spider had previously busted for drug dealing.

Hellbent on revenge, Maggie was armed with a gun when Spider found her and forced him and Toyah to their knees while holding them at gunpoint.

Although a shot rang out, Spider immediately leaped back up and revealed he had been wearing a bulletproof vest and subdued Maggie.

Viewers have been unimpressed with the storyline so far however with some even hitting out at the acting abilities of the cast while others didn’t understand how Spider managed to get back up so quickly.
