Chelsea star opens up on his "really annoying" lack of Prem action under Sarri

Andreas Christensen admits it is “really annoying” to be missing out on playing a big part in Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea revolution.

Defender Christensen has gone from being a regular under previous boss Antonio Conte to rarely featuring under new boss Sarri.

The Denmark international has yet to play in the first eight Premier League games this season, with his three appearances coming in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

In contrast, he played 40 times in total for Chelsea last term when Antonio Conte was manager.

The 22 year-old has been squeezed out following Sarri’s switch to a back four, and finds himself behind David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger in the pecking.

That has reduced him to a limited role in Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season and Christensen said: “It’s a gift for the team, but for me personally it has been a hard start of the season.

"I had looked forward to getting our new manager. We play really good football, explosively and offensively all you can wish for. So that’s great, but it’s really annoying that I’m not on the pitch when it happens.”

Christensen has joined fellow centre-back Gary Cahill in speaking out about his lack of game time. But, like Cahill, he accepts that the Blues are playing well in his absence.

He told Danish paper BT: “It has been difficult to get into the team, and when we get the good results that we currently do, it will only be even harder."

On the prospect of asking to go on loan in January, Christensen added: “I cannot stand to have so much patience again. Now I’m 22 years old and I really want to play. In the last three seasons, I’ve played, so it’s clear that I do not see myself staying if my current situation is also true in the future.

“It’s too early to talk about when to change if I’m going to change. But it is clear that it is not a good situation for me.”
