CBS Reveals ‘MacGyver’ Will End With Season Five; Series Finale Will Air This Month

Sad news for MacGyver fans – the show will be ending after season five, Deadline reports.

The show was averaging 5.85 million viewers and a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating (most current) this season under new showrunner Monica Macer.

“All of us at CBS are extremely grateful for the incredible work and dedication from Lucas and the rest of the cast, as well as Monica, the writers and the entire crew,” Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment, shared in a statement. “The MacGyver team traveled far and wide to repeatedly save the world with little more than bubble gum and a paper clip and made this show distinctly their own. We’re gratified we get to give this dedicated and loyal fan base the opportunity to say goodbye to their favorite characters in the thoughtful manner this series deserves.”

MacGyver starred Lucas Till, Tristin Mays, Justin Hires, Meredith Eaton, Levy Tran and Henry Ian Cusick.

The series finale will bow on April 30 at its normal time at 8/7c, and has already been filmed. Here are more CBS shows that are ending this year…

The current series was a re-imagining of the 1985 drama and centered on Angus “Mac” MacGyver (Till), who is part of a clandestine organization within the U.S. government, where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem-solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives.

Under the aegis of the Phoenix Foundation, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.
