Ben Mekler, an actor and writer, gave it two paws up.
‘Uh, #Cats is kinda great? Everything that seemed weird in the trailers just melts away when you’re watching the film.
‘It’s magical and just plain works with the sole exception of Taylor Swift’s original song about the cats devouring the corpse of an old woman who died in her flat.’

‘I am not sure what just happened but I know that it was something worth experiencing.’
Vogue writer Keaton Kilde said: ‘The worst thing about Cats is that Jason Derulo is the best part.’
Good one: Variety liked Swift’s song Beautiful Ghosts. ‘Having seen #CatsMovie, the Academy’s failure to include Beautiful Ghosts on the original song shortlist was a bad move,’ Ramin Setoodeh wrote
A tweeter said the CGI used to make the actors look like cats caused the movie to appear as ‘a demented dream ballet.’
‘Special and unique,’ said Full Circle Line editor Marcos Melendez.
Variety liked Swift’s song Beautiful Ghosts.
‘Having seen #CatsMovie, the Academy’s failure to include Beautiful Ghosts on the original song shortlist was a bad move,’ Ramin Setoodeh of Variety wrote. ‘Obviously, voters left it off because ‘Cats’ hadn’t screened yet. But the song — a bookend to ‘Memory’ — is great. I already can’t get it out of my head.’
‘It brings me no pleasure to report that CATS is way too horny for its own good,’ joked Carolien Framek of Variety.

The first trailer for Cats got a scathing response from fans when it dropped in July.
Hooper told the UK’s Empire magazine earlier this month that the backlash was ‘quite entertaining’ and that the visual effects and the designs of some of the cats have since evolved.
‘We’d only finished shooting in March, so all the visual effects were at quite an early stage,’ Hooper, 47, explained of the trailer that was released on July 18.
‘Possibly there were, in the extremity in some of the responses, some clues in how to keep evolving,’ he added.
‘When you watch the finished film, you’ll see that some of the designs of the cats have moved on since then, and certainly our understanding of how to use the technology to make them work has gone up, too.’
Cats hits US theaters on December 20.
