Carol Vorderman explains how she met Michelle Mone
Carol Vorderman, 62, has set the record straight on her first months knowing Baroness Michelle Mone before the breakdown of their friendship. The former Countdown star publicly fell out with the lingerie tycoon, who she said she “dropped like a stone” on live TV while discussing a PPE contracts scandal.
Speaking on James O’Brien’s Full Disclosure podcast, Carol explained how her friendship with Michelle first came to be over a decade ago.
She explained: “Well, let’s talk about Michelle. I’ll tell you what it is.
“So, Michelle, I was introduced to by the BBC for Celebrity Apprentice does Comic Relief.
“And it’s interesting… If I introduce you to someone, ‘Oh, this is my friend, who’s got this amazing company…’ You’d take that at face value because you respect my judgement, right?
“So when on the BBC you are introduced to this person, you’d take it as the truth.
“So, at that time, or a year later, I started introducing the Loose Women show on ITV – I was in London all the time, and they gave you an allowance for a hotel because I lived in Bristol.
“So I started staying in The Dorchester and I would top up, and that’s my choice. And I was doing other work as well.
“And she was staying there at the same time. So, you’re a single woman, you go downstairs to the bar and that’s where it sort of began.
“It lasted about, I’d say 18 months maybe – something like that. I won’t go into detail but I just realised, ‘Woah, I don’t want to be seen with this person.’”
James then interrupted: “And then all this stuff started emerging.”
Carol revealed: “Many years later. That was 2011.”
Asked whether she was surprised by their feud, Carol admitted: “No, not surprised at all.”

Carol has not held back in her criticism of the entrepreneur, having recently taken aim at her during an appearance on This Morning.
Hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary asked her and Gyles Brandreth for their thoughts on Sir Rod Stewart’s recent outburst about the NHS on Sky News.
After Gyles suggested Rod was “angry” because of the reports of “£15 billion wastage” on PPE, Carol weighed in.
“I cannot talk about useless PPE without also talking about Michelle Mone, who was brought into the House of Lords, as a baroness, by David Cameron,” she ranted.
Carol then added Michelle, founder of lingerie firm Ultimo, was accused of profiting from money that may have been made through PPE contracts, a claim which Michelle has denied.
A statement released by Michelle’s office at the time of the claims said: “With immediate effect, Baroness Mone will be taking a leave of absence from the House of Lords in order to clear her name of the allegations that have been unjustly levelled against her.”
Alison did interject to defend Michelle during Carol’s rant and pointed out she wasn’t there to be able to refute her claims.
Prior to their fallout, Carol and Michelle had enjoyed a public friendship, pictured together at a number of star-studded events.
