The Backstreet Boys are standing behind Nick Carter after his rape accuser, Melissa Schuman, says she filed a police report earlier this year.
“He’s not [worried],” bandmate Brian Littrell told TMZ in a recent interview. “He has our full support.”
In November 2017, Schuman, a member of the 2000s girl group Dream, claimed in a blog post that Carter raped her back when she was 18 years old and Carter, now 38, was 22.
“Unfortunately, there are fame seekers that are out there,” Littrell said. “In this situation, he’s been forthright and honest with us, and we have to stand beside our bandmate. That’s all we can do.”
He added, “It is what it is, it’s the time in the world we live in, everybody wants to know something or get something on somebody, and um, you know, Backstreet Boys are top ten on radio right now and back in people’s brains.”
Schuman revealed in February that she filed a police report with the Santa Monica Police Department. The case was reportedly handed over to the DA’s office.
Backstreet Boy AJ McLean has also been open about supporting Carter.
In a statement to Page Six last year, Carter denied Schuman’s allegations, telling us: “I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations. Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual.”
