Ryan Murphy better pump the brakes and tell Sarah Paulson she can go back to eating carbs for the time being, because American Crime Story: The Child Army Trial isn’t a sure thing just yet. It seems there’s still a chance to avoid a Kramer Vs Kramer situation with People Magazine reporting that Angelina Jolie doesn’t actually want sole custody, and The Blast reporting that William Bradley Pitt is terrified about what a trial will do to the children. Which is huge because it means somebody actually has thought of the children! Knock me over with a feather. Better late than never.
A source has told People that Angelina “isn’t seeking full custody” and that “both parties continue to work together toward a settlement”. Great, sounds easy then!
While the documents say a “trial on the bifurcated issue of custody is to begin on December 4,” multiple sources tell PEOPLE both sides are working toward an out-of-court settlement to arrange custody of their children without going to trial.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that a trial would be damaging to the kids, but just to be sure we know that he knows it, sources in the Brad camp are telegraphing his concern on a high frequency. According to The Blast, Brad thinks Angie is being “irresponsible to their children, and feels they have been embarrassed enough during their parents’ public feud”. The source also notes that the children are able to “read the news” now that they’re older, seemingly oblivious of the fact that the older kids have probably been using Google News Alerts in order to figure out who’s house they are supposed to be at that week for some time now.
Brad says he wants 50/50 custody, plain and simple and can’t see why that’s an issue for Angie. There’s also the matter of that airplane incident which Brad’s camp says is a key component of Angie’s strategy to achieve her “unwavering” goal of securing sole custody. But Brad’s confident it won’t work.
We’re told Pitt’s legal team is not worried about Jolie’s tactics because the actor was never criminally charged with anything, and the custody case is not a criminal matter.
So with a trial date of December 4 looming ominously on the horizon and threatening to ruin Christmas for everyone, the children are currently being “evaluated” which in this case means a Celebrity child psychologist named Dr. Katz (he’s appeared on “The Today Show, Larry King, Oprah, 20/20, and even Bad Girls Club”) has been interviewing them and their caregivers. He will provide the judge a report and his findings will weigh heavily in the judge’s ultimate decision. Dr. Katz will played by Billy Eichner when AHS: The Child Army Trial ultimately goes into production.
