‘Money grab’: Blake Lively sparks backlash from ‘confused’ fans over launch of her new alcoholic beverages after admitting she NEVER drinks booze
- Blake is receiving backlash for promoting booze line when she does not drink
- She launched Betty Buzz in 2021 as a non-alcoholic mixer line
- Her husband Ryan Reynolds owns the gin brand, Aviation American Gin
Blake Lively raised plenty of eyebrows on Wednesday as she announced that her Betty Buzz brand will be releasing alcoholic drinks — despite her being a non-drinker.
The actress, 35, shared promo shots to Instagram, all of which showed her lifting the lid off her new drink selection.
‘Drinking isn’t my thing. But for f* sake, flavor is,’ captioned the Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants star.
She claimed that the superb quality of the drink line — using words like ‘clean’ — is what convinced her to pursue this route.
‘Homemade recipes. Real fruit. Real ingredients. Quality booze. No crap. Also a real time saver. Which is why I really did it,’ she wrote.

Fans quickly took to the comments to call out the Gossip Girl star, with one asking: ‘if drinking isn’t your thing… how do you know of [sic] it tastes correct or good?’
Some expressed that they found Lively’ entrance into the liquor space ‘irritating’ and that her captioned seemed as though it was ‘shaming’ drinkers.
Another teased: ‘I don’t drink but you should [HAND ON FACE EMOJI]’
Many hoped she was introducing ‘non-alcoholic cocktails,’ so it turned out to be a disappointment.
One fan accused it of being a ‘cash grab’ while others compared her to Jennifer Lopez, who caught similar flack for the launch of her alcohol brand Delola this year.
In April, the On The Floor singer claimed she doesn’t ‘drink or smoke or have caffeine.’
In 2018, Lively claimed to be ‘an amazing mixologist’ despite not drinking.
She told PEOPLE that she does not ‘like the effects of alcohol’ and that she feels better sober.
‘I found that sometimes not drinking, the thing that was interesting was that it was a little alienating, because you don’t feel—and maybe it’s just in your own head—but you just don’t really feel a part of it,’ she expressed.
Blake launched her sparkling mixers Betty Buzz in 2021.
‘Over the past many years of mixing but not drinking cocktails, it became clear mixers are the unsung heroes of the drink world and deserve just as much love as alcohol,’ the actress penned.
‘We spent over three years crafting Betty Buzz and are so excited for people to finally taste it.’
She told PEOPLE at time of launch: ‘I don’t drink. I know that’s odd coming from the wife of an infamous gin slinger.
‘Over the past many years of mixing but not drinking cocktails, it became clear mixers are the unsung heroes of the drink world and deserve just as much love as alcohol.
‘We’ve spent the last three years crafting Betty Buzz and are so excited for people to finally taste it,’ she concluded in her statement.
She dished that the name of the line is an homage to the Lively name.
‘My dad’s name was Ernest Brown Jr but he was known as Ernie Lively,’ he told the outlet. ‘He gave up his last name when he married my mom and any success here, or I, have experienced has been in a name that isn’t his.’
Lively continued: ‘So when I was working hard to build this company, I wanted any success to be in a name that was meaningful to him. Betty was his mom and his sister’s name.
‘Also, Ernie would not be the best name for a mixer.’
It’s important to note that Blake’s husband Ryan Reynolds owns the gin company Aviation American Gin — which he recently advertised for Father’s Day.
For the holiday, Ryan enlisted country singer Jessie James Decker, who trolled her husband Eric Decker’s decision not to undergo a vasectomy while appearing in a promo video for Aviation American Gin.
‘It’s Father’s Day and that means it’s time for another vasectomy — something my husband has refused to get,’ the country singer, 35, tells the audience while standing behind a bar.
Jessie takes ‘matters into my own hands’ by whipping up her own version of the Ryan Reynolds-owned liquor brand’s famous ‘The Vasectomy’ cocktail for her spouse, 36.
‘Homemade recipes. Real fruit. Real ingredients. Quality booze. No crap. Also a real time saver. Which is why I really did it,’ she wrote
She teased the release earlier this week
Many hoped she was introducing ‘non-alcoholic cocktails,’ so it turned out to be a disappointment
Earlier this year, the mother-of-three revealed that the NFL star won’t go through with the procedure despite having zero plans to expand their family.
The couple — who wed in June 2013 — are already parents to Vivianne, eight, Bubby, seven, and Forrest, four.
She told Us Weekly that her husband fears it would take ‘his manhood away from him.’
A vasectomy — commonly referred to as ‘the snip’ — is a reversible medical procedure that involves the cutting or sealing of the tubes that carry sperm, as per the NHS.
This ‘permanently prevents pregnancy’ and is considered a minor surgery that takes about 15 minutes to complete and is usually done under local anesthesia.
So, Jessie laid the innuendos on thick as she encouraged viewers to whip up ‘The Vasectomy: Decker Edition’ at home by going through her recipe step-by-step.
‘Now, just like the original cocktail, we’ll start by filling a tall glass with ice,’ Jessie began.
As the cubes fall into the the glass, she remarks that ‘that’s probably more ice then you’ll need to soothe your tender areas after what I’m told is a pretty quick and painless procedure.
‘I mean, it’s not like giving birth.’
Next, the I Still Love You hitmaker adds ‘one ounce of cranberry juice’ that’s ‘sweet like an outpatient gesture of love.’
She then adds in ‘one and a quarter ounces’ of Aviation American Gin and just a squeeze of fresh lemon.
Jessie completes the drink by pouring in three ounces of Betty Buzz tonic water — the mixer brand owned by Ryan’s actress wife Blake Lively.
‘Looks like there’s at least one husband out there looking out for his better half,’ she jokes.
For an elegant touch, Jessie garnishes the cocktail with an orange peel.
‘Looks like this one could use a snip,’ the Boys In The Summer singer quips, before taking a pair of scissors and cutting it down to size.
‘And there you have it! The Vasectomy. So good and so easy,’ she says proudly.
Eric walks into frame, eager to try out his wife’s concoction.
Ryan then makes an abrupt cameo as he reminds the couple that the drinks ‘don’t actually work’ like a vasectomy.
Jessie whispers to her husband: ‘Don’t listen to him, they work.’
The hilarious ad was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday.
But it was in January of this year that Jessie further dished about her husband declining to get a vasectomy.
She told Us Weekly that she’s been begging him to ‘make that appointment’ but that he digs in his heels.
He just won’t do it,’ said Jessie, who has been a country pop act since her childhood.
‘He says it takes, like, his manhood away from him. So he’s just gonna leave it, I guess.’
When she was asked whether she and Eric plan to expand their family, she replied: ‘I feel like as of right now, it’s probably a no.’
An accidental pregnancy is therefore still on the table, and Jessie allowed that ‘if it happens, it’s always a blessing. We’re not doing anything to truly prevent that.’
Her remarks came a year after Eric told the outlet that ‘the papers are filled out’ for him to get a vasectomy, but that he was ‘a little nervous about it, to be honest’ as the operation represents ‘a little power being taken. That’s how I feel.’
At the same time an exasperated Jessie groused to the same outlet that her husband ‘will not’ go through with the procedure. ‘It’s still TBD.’
Although her efforts to convince her husband have been futile, all the time and effort she’s put into her line Kittenish Swimwear have reaped some major rewards.
Last week, the chart-topper cried tears of joy after watching model walk down the runway in her pieces during Paraiso Swim Week in Miami.

The Kittenish show presented the brand’s new spring swim collection.
When describing her line Decker said, ‘Kittenish is about being playful, fun, flirty, and sassy, and this swim collection displays just that.’
This year, she approached the design team with a distinct vision of fusing her admiration for European aesthetics with her southern roots to curate her finest swim collection yet.
The aesthetic captured by Jessie was achieved through a meticulous selection of romantic shades of red, vibrant greens, and a blend of warm neutrals.
Jessie’s latest collection exudes a romantic and alluring vibe inspired by Italy and the Mediterranean coast. The collection features subtle hints of Mediterranean prints, animal-inspired prints, and textured fabrics, adding a touch of spice to the overall aesthetic.
