There is a bizarre and wild conspiracy theory that says that the “real” Avril Lavigne died in 2003 and was replaced … with a clone.
Avril — in real life — has been working on new music.
Now, she’s been asked about the conspiracy theory in an interview. Here’s what she had to say:
In an interview with Australia’s KISS 1065, Avril Lavigne was asked about the absurd conspiracy theory.
“Did you laugh at the rumors that went around where you no longer exist and there’s a clone of you?” the interviewer asked.
That’s a hell of a question.
“Yeah,” Avril admits. “Some people think that I’m not the real me, which is so weird!”
She openly wonders: “Like, why would they even think that?”
That is a great question, but we can answer it … up to a point.
In 2003, Avril’s grandfather — with whom she was very close — passed away.
She did not take is death well. Who would?
Unfortunately, this led some of the internet’s most bizarre people to spin theories that she had taken her own life.
While celebrities commit actual suicide at times, theorists latched onto the idea that a doppelganger was hired to hide her death.
Others believed that the lookalike may have been a clone.
This bizarre theory originated in Brazil and then took off.
According to this fringe belief, the woman “pretending” to be Avril is named Melissa Vandella.
Katy Perry and Britney Spears are both examples of celebrities who have been subject to rumors of being cloned and replaced.
(Remember that one dude who thought that JonBenet Ramsey was some sort of sacrifice but also became Katy Perry? Wild)
Usually, these theories arise after a change in an appearance or a sabbatical in which the star avoids the spotlight for a while.
It’s difficult to explain why people would come up with these bizarre theories.
Part of it may come from people who struggle with facial recognition and have trouble matching faces as celebrities age or wear different makeup.
(There are also brain injuries that impede visual recognition and make people believe that they’re seeing imposters)
Those who believe in Illuminati, New World Order, Deep State, Alien Overlord, and Luciferian conspiracy theories may see these replace-and-clone theories as part of larger, incomprehensible schemes.
In real life, Avril Lavigne has been working on new music.
We are all kinds of excited about that.
Between her personal life keeping her busy and her battle with Lyme disease, it’s been a while since Avril dropped some bops.
At the very end of August of this year, Avril thanked her fans for their patience as she continues to work on her music.
“To my fans,” Avril writes. “I just want to thank everyone for their patience as I work on putting together this new album.”
“It’s been a long recovery,” she admits. “And I want to make sure that this is perfect for you guys!!”
“You only deserve my best effort and that’s what I’m going to deliver!” Avril promises.
“I can’t wait to share the new music I’m working on,” Avril gushes.
She concludes: I promise it’ll be here before you know it!! Love you, Avril.”
“Head Above Water” was her first song in five entire years.
Even though Avril’s style has changed over the years, fans are looking forward to her new album.
She should take all of the time that she needs.
