Weakened: Ant McPartlin has admitted that he ‘struggles’ with a need to be liked by everyone, admitting that the desire has ‘weakened’ him at times

Dec, 44, mused: ‘If one was to trump the other then I’d like to be liked’, whilst Ant reasoned: ‘I’d say respect. We struggle so much with wanting everybody to like us, we weaken ourselves at times.’

Ant has faced several hardships in recent years, going through a divorce from wife of 11 years, Lisa Armstrong, and entering rehab for alcohol and drug addiction.

The presenter then took a break from presenting duties after he was arrested for drink-driving in March 2018, while he and Dec were still hosting Saturday Night Takeaway.

Smitten: Ant also revealed that girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett was among his ‘greatest loves’, also including her two children from a previous relationship, their dogs and his family

Ant told police he was ‘ashamed and mortified’ after crashing his car while drink-driving with his mother in the passenger seat.

Asked by Stylist what lesson in life had been the hardest to learn, Ant revealed: ‘That it’s OK to ask for help. I think men especially struggle with that a lot.’

Meanwhile, Dec confessed that his would be ‘don’t spoil the present by worrying too much about the future.’

Unable to pick one, Ant reeled off his family, his girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett, her two daughters from a previous relationship, and their dogs, jokingly adding Newcastle United football team.

Ant and Anne-Marie were first linked in March, 2018, two months after Ant released a statement to confirm that he had split from wife Lisa.

Anne-Marie separated from her husband Scott in October 2017, and the pair amicably co-parent their two daughters.

Anne-Marie had worked as Ant’s personal assistant for a short while and had been friends with Ant’s wife Lisa, who discovered she and Ant were dating, via a newspaper.

Ant and head Strictly Come Dancing make-up artist Lisa had been together for 23 years.

They were granted a divorce during a 30-second hearing at the Central Family Court in October 2018.
