Amy Schumer BLASTS ‘sociopath’ Hilaria Baldwin, takes aim at star ‘pretending to be from Spain’ and her ‘Von Trapp amount of kids’ in blistering new Netflix special
- Schumer, 42, famously trolled yoga teacher Baldwin, 39, in 2021 after it emerged the latter had been lying about her Spanish heritage for years
- Schumer claimed she met Hilaria ‘years ago’ backstage at SNL where the star told her she was ‘from España (with) a very thick Spanish accent’
- Schumer added: ‘They have a von Trapp amount of children, and they named them all – I’m not sure, but very Spanish names like Jamón, Croqueta’
Amy Schumer has taken aim at ‘sociopath’ Hilaria Baldwin and her infamous Spanish heritage scandal in her new Netflix special, Emergency Contact.
Schumer, 42, who famously trolled yoga teacher Baldwin, 39, in 2021 after it emerged the latter had been lying about her Spanish heritage for years, blasted the star over her ‘Von Trapp amount of kids’ and husband Alec Baldwin, 65, fatally shooting Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Schumer claimed she met Hilaria ‘years ago’ backstage at SNL where the star told her she was ‘”from España,” (with) a very thick Spanish accent.’
Schumer added: ‘They have a von Trapp amount of children, and they named them all – I’m not sure, but very Spanish names like Jamón, Croqueta and Flamenco.
‘And all of this would be fine and beautiful, except that “Hilaria from España” is actually Hillary from Boston. This woman is in no way Spanish. Her parents are not from Spain. No one in her life is from Spain. You’re going, “What?!” Did you think I was just doing a really racist Spanish impression?
Oh dear: Amy Schumer has taken aim at ‘sociopath’ Hilaria Baldwin and her infamous Spanish heritage scandal in her new Netflix special, Emergency Contact
On blast: Schumer, 42, who famously trolled yoga teacher Baldwin in 2021 after it emerged the latter had been lying about her Spanish heritage for years, blasted the star over her ‘Von Trapp amount of kids’ (Hilaria pictured with son Edu in 2020)
‘So, I’m not trying to bully a sociopath. I have a point, OK? I think what had happened was she went to Spain. And I’ve been lucky enough to go to Spain. Some of you have been. It’s great, right? Don’t you love it? I loved it, too. But Hillary from Boston … loooved it!’
‘My point is that all evidence points to this woman, since she met her husband, has straight up pretended to be from Spain. And her husband shot someone… find someone who can stand you.’
It comes just weeks after Baldwin reached a settlement with the son of Halyna Hutchins – the cinematographer shot dead by him on the set of his film Rust.
She died when a prop Colt .45 pistol was accidentally loaded with a live round and fired at her by the actor, in October 2021.
Alec and Hilaria share seven children — Carmen, nine; Rafael, seven; Leonardo, six; Romeo, five; Maria, two; Eduardo, two; and Ilaria, eight months — while Baldwin also shares his eldest daughter, 27-year-old Ireland Baldwin, with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
Baldwin has consistently maintained that he never pulled the trigger on the gun, which should not have had live ammunition placed in it at any point in the production.
In April, prosecutors in New Mexico dropped involuntary manslaughter charges that had been filed against Baldwin.
The charges shelved after a new prosecutor reviewed evidence indicating that the gun could have fired without the trigger being pulled, according to The New York Times.
Brood: Hilaria and Alec Baldwin are parents to seven children – with Alec also dad to daughter Ireland
Apology: In 2021 Schumer has revealed that she deleted posts mocking Hilaria in the light of her fake Spanish heritage scandal because she ‘didn’t want to be mean’
Joker: The second post featured an image of Schumer, and in the caption, she poked fun at the scandal – and a video of Baldwin seemingly forgetting the English word for ‘cucumber’
Schumer poked fun at Baldwin in two Instagram posts, the first of which was shared just before the scandal broke.
Then in January 2021 she revealed that she’d deleted the posts poking because she ‘didn’t want to be mean.’
Schumer got caught up in the furious scandal surrounding Baldwin’s faux European background amid ongoing reports that Hilaria – whose real name is Hillary Hayward-Thomas – had been lying about her Spanish heritage for years.
After swiftly removing both posts shortly after they were shared, Schumer then shared her reason for taking them down – explaining to Entertainment Tonight that, while she found the whole scandal ‘insane’, she felt bad about being ‘mean’ when she realized how ‘upset’ Baldwin was.
‘I was just like, “I don’t want to be mean,” and she seemed like maybe it hurt her feelings, so I just took it down,’ the I Feel Pretty star said.
‘You can’t just pretend you are Spanish’: Schumer added.
Long con: The social media frenzy began with a tweet that read: ‘You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person’
Fake accent: Schumer’s jesting came after online allegations that Baldwin faked her Spanish accent, while pretending to be from Majorca, Spain, when she’s actually from Boston
In the first post, Schumer shared an image of Baldwin posing in lingerie with her child Edu, and joked that it was a photo of herself and her son Gene.
After reports surfaced about Baldwin’s faux heritage, Schumer shared a second image of herself with the caption: ‘I get it. I went to Spain a couple times.’
Despite later deleting the posts, Schumer said she found the whole controversy ‘insane and entertaining’
She also joked that Baldwin – who is the wife of Alec Baldwin – must have been ‘happy’ about the Capitol riot because it ‘distracted people’ from the scandal
The controversy erupted following a viral Twitter thread that made accusations about how Hilaria had been misrepresenting her background for years.
Posted by an anonymous user, the tweets began, ‘You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person.’
It was liked 20,000 times and led to dozens of people finding examples of Baldwin using a Spanish accent, a jarring contrast to her childhood in Boston where she was known as Hillary and considered white by her classmates.
Several videos of Hilaria’s past TV appearances resurfaced showing her commitment to a Spanish accent, including one Today show segment during which she seemingly forgot the English word for ‘cucumber’.
A number of Hilaria’s former classmates also came forward to confirm that she was in fact raised in Weston, Massachusetts, by professor parents – and did not have a hint of a Spanish accent during her childhood and teen years.
‘I went to high school with her. Genuinely lovely person, I recall, but fully a white girl from Cambridge,’ one wrote.
Alec leapt to his wife’s defense in the wake of the claims, taking a thinly-veiled swipe at her critics on Twitter in the week after the thread was first posted.
‘You have to kind of hack your way through the debris of Twitter,’ he wrote. ‘Twitter is just a vast orchard of cr**. There’s things that have been said lately about people that I love, that I care about deeply, which are ridiculous. I mean, just ridiculous.’
Hilaria has since clarified she was born and raised in Boston’s posh Beacon Hill district to parents (who moved to Spain in 2011) with deep roots in the United States.
Baldwin even went as far as to blame her agency CAA and ¡Hola! magazine for mistakenly referring to her as Spanish in an interview with the New York Times last month.
‘Home is where my parents are going to be,’ the Mom Brain podcaster bizarrely explained. ‘If my parents move to China, I am going to go to China and say, “I’m going home.”‘
But as far back as 2011, Hillary perpetuated her fictional heritage by tweeting that she was a ‘Spanish yoga teacher.’
As recent as two months ago, Baldwin’s husband Alec told Aaron and Rohit’s Hopeless Show ‘my wife is from Spain’ and he said the same on Late Show with David Letterman in 2013.
