Aerosmith has responded to drummer Joey Kramer‘s decision to file a lawsuit against his band mates for excluding him from two key events featuring the rock band this week.
Aerosmith will be honored with the 2020 MusiCares Person of the Year Award on Friday night and will be playing at the Recording Academy’s tribute show. The band is also scheduled to perform at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
Kramer was replaced with John Douglas last year after the drummer suffered minor injuries.
Kramer made it clear that the legal action is not aimed at making money, but because he was being deprived of the opportunity to be recognized along with his peers for the band’s collective, lifetime contributions to the music industry.
Aerosmith tried to justify its stand in a reply.
The band explained in a statement that Kramer has not been emotionally and physically able to perform with the band, by his own admission, for the last 6 months.
“We have missed him and have encouraged him to rejoin us to play many times but apparently he has not felt ready to do so,” Aerosmith says.
They ask why the drummer waited until the last moment to accept their invitation “to be with us for both the Grammys and our MusiCares honor” when there is no time for necessary rehearsals during Grammy week.
