Adele’s One Night Only interview with Winfrey, 67, was made by James Corden and Ben Winston’s company Fulwell 73, that was also responsible for the Friends reunion special.

The critical reaction to the show was positive to mixed – with some reviews complaining about the lackluster interview with Winfrey, while praising the performance side of it.

According to reports in The Mirror, the CBS show could generate more than $100million (over £74million) with Corden’s firm expected to take a cut.

The two-hour special featured the pop songstress’ first new material in six years, with an insider claiming CBS has paid ‘at least $5million, but perhaps as much as $7million’ to debut the interview.

Sitting in Oprah’s rose garden: The British superstar also took part in an interview with Winfrey but some critics found this segment to be lackluster compared to the electrifying performance

During the personal chat with Winfrey, Adele admitted that her ex-husband Simon Konecki ‘saved her life’ because he gave her ‘stability’ after she found herself on a ‘self-destructive path.’

The singer, 33, who split from the charity mogul in 2019 after just over a year of marriage, confessed she could have become ‘lost’ as a young woman in the music industry, but believes Simon and their son Angelo, nine, were ‘angels sent to her.’

Speaking during her CBS special, Adele also revealed that a magazine personality quiz drove her to her decision to divorce Simon two years ago, which helped her realise she was just ‘plodding along’ in her marriage.

She told Oprah Winfrey: ‘I think Simon probably saved my life, to be honest with you. He came at such a moment, where the stability that him and Angelo have given me, no one else would ever have been able to give me.

Candid: Speaking to Oprah Winfrey during her One Night Only CBS Special, Adele confessed that Simon brought her ‘stability’ when she could have gone down ‘some dodgy paths’

‘Especially at that time, I was so young and I just, I think I would have got a bit lost in all of it.

‘I could have easily gone down some dodgy paths, you know? And sort of self-destructed from being overwhelmed by all of it.

‘He came in and was stable. The most stable person I’ve ever had in my life up until that point. Even now, I trust him with my life.’

Adele went onto say that she believes Simon and Angelo were ‘angels sent to [her],’ and the hardest part of her split was explaining the separation to their son.

Amazing: The singer took to the stage at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles , California for an intimate concert before sitting down with the chat show host for an interview

She said: ‘I do love [your dad], I’m not not in love with him,’ it makes absolutely no sense to a six year old.

‘So there were so many answers I just couldn’t give him ’cause there aren’t any really. Like, you know, that he would understand.’

Adele – who is now dating sports agent Rich Paul – went onto admit she’d love to have more children in the future.

She said: ‘I would like more children. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I didn’t because I have Angelo, but yeah, I think so.’

Meanwhile, the great and good of Hollywood were in attendance at the Adele special, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Drake, Nicole Richie, Lizzo, Melissa McCarthy and Ellen DeGeneres among others.
