Desi Perkins is taking over the makeup world one Youtube video, Insta Story, and product collaboration at a time. In between all the jetsetting, filming content for her 3.1 million followers, and creating new collections with Dose of Colors. Perkins has learned to carve precious time out of her day to take care of her skin. “This is what I like to call the transformation station,” Perkins declares in front of the bathroom mirror as she readies for her nighttime routine. The first step is securing her hair back in a gentle silky scrunchie, followed by a gentle removal of her false eyelashes.
Then the cleansing process begins with a few silk pads and Neutrogena makeup remover. “I like to press it into my eyes and gently rub back and forth—lightly—to remove all mascara and eye makeup,” she says. “I like double cleansing, I like oil cleansers, it just breaks up all the foundation and I have a lot of it on right now.” For that, she rubs the Tatcha oil cleanser on dry skin to break up all her makeup. Using a damp wash cloth and warm water, she gently rubs the cleanser off—paying extra attention to her hairline and ears where bronzer tends to hide.
“I am pretty sure I still have makeup on. Even when you think that you took all your makeup off, that’s a lie,” she says. So she double cleanses with a creamy cleanser and exfoliating pad as the ext step. “In a really gentle circular motion, I am going to apply this face wash,” she says. “It smells so good—lemon pie.”
Perkins drags the cleanser and exfoliating pad down her neck as well, heeding the anti-aging advice of her mother. “Pat dry people, pat dry. You don’t want to rub or tug your skin because that causes wrinkles,” she says. Next up is toner. At first Perkins wasn’t a fan of the extra step in her routine, but after seeing the toner pad covered in makeup—even after cleansing twice—she was convinced. “I was shook,” she notes before demonstrating for the camera. “I love applying this over where I have breakouts. Listen, right now, I have some things going on. That’s fine, it happens to the best of us,” she says.
Once every last bit of makeup is off and the toner is dry, Perkins moves on to anti-aging products like peel pads and skin-coddling oils designed for oily skin. Her routine is mainly focused on healing hyperpigmentation and dark spots, as well as keeping excess oil at bay. But she has a secret weapon when it comes to fighting pimples—in the form of a sticker. “These are awesome,” Perkins adds. “These are the Peace Out Acne Healing Dots. What I love about these is that you can jut place them on your breakouts and they don’t move, they’re sticky. On top of that they’re like a skin tone, so it disguises your pimple too.”
