Derek Hough gives fans update on his wife Hayley’s condition after she underwent emergency surgery: ‘She is now on the long road of recovery’

Derek Hough gave his fans an update on the health of his wife, Hayley Erbert, in a post shared on his Instagram account on Friday.

The 38-year-old professional dancer’s spouse underwent emergency surgery on Thursday evening after she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma following a performance in Washington, DC, on their Symphony Of Dance tour.

Cranial hematoma is defined as a collection of blood within the brain, which commonly occurs after a blood vessel bursts.

Hough began his message by revealing that Erbert, 29, had responded well to her course of treatment.

‘Hayley has always inspired me with her will, her strength, and her resilience and no more so than in the last 48 hours. She is now on the long road of recovery,’ he wrote.

The Dancing With The Stars judge then spoke about the gratitude he felt for all the well wishes that had been sent by his fans.

‘Words cannot express how grateful and thankful we are for the support and love that you have given us. The kindness that we’ve been shown in this incredibly unfathomable, and life changing time is immeasurable,’ he wrote.

He concluded by writing: ‘The offers of assistance that have poured in have been so humbling and appreciated. Our hope is that as a family, we can somehow and someway pay it forward.’

Hough previously spoke about Hayley’s health on his Instagram account on Thursday evening.

He wrote that, following their performance, his wife ‘became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.’

A craniectiomy is defined as a procedure where a piece of skull is removed in order to reduce swelling on the brain.

Hough then added that, at the time, his wife was listed as being ‘in stable condition.’

The television personality concluded his message by expressing his gratitude for the efforts of his wife’s medical team.

‘I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time.’

Hough’s sister, Julianne, shared a message on her Instagram Story and asked her fans to ‘pray and send all your love, healing and light’ to her sister-in-law.

The professional dancer and Erbert began initially met in 2014, although they did not begin dating for another two years.

The pair went Instagram official with their relationship in 2017, and they went on to tie the knot this past August.
