Legendary goalkeeper Pat Jennings has been taken to hospital after he collapsed before Tottenham’s clash with Chelsea on Monday evening.

Jennings, 78, was in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch former club Spurs in action against their fierce rivals but fell ill before kick-off.

Mail Sport understands that the Northern Ireland legend was assessed by stadium medics in north London before being taken to a local hospital.

Positively, Mail Sport also understands that Jennings was said to be feeling better later on in the night.

Jennings, who started his career at Watford, was set to watch Ange Postecoglou’s side try to maintain their unbeaten start to the season from the stands, with Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s returning to White Hart Lane for the first time since being sacked by the club in 2019.

The game started at a frenetic pace, with Tottenham breaking the deadlock within five minutes before pandemonium on the pitch saw Spurs reduced to nine-man and lose their first Premier League game of the season courtesy of Nicolas Jackson’s hat-trick and Cole Palmer’s penalty.

The clash saw five goals disallowed through VAR, Cristian Romero and Destiny Odogie sent off for Spurs, Postecoglou booked and Micky van de Ven suffer a ‘significant’ hamstring injury in what was hectic game in north London for the hosts.

The Northern Ireland legend made 472 appearances for Tottenham across a 13-year spell between 1964 to 1977 before making the switch to rivals Arsenal.
