EastEnders’ Jamie Borthwick and James Bye claim the show’s Christmas storyline is going to be as “massive” as Max Branning and Stacey Slater’s affair reveal in 2007.
The pair, who play Jay Brown and Martin Fowler respectively, have given insight into what the BBC has planned for Albert Square this holiday season.
“We’ve started filming the lead-up to [the Christmas special] and it’s up there with one of the best Christmasses that I’m in,” said James, 39, on the Pride of Britain red carpet.
29-year-old Jamie continued to claim that the upcoming storyline is “Like Max and Stacey affair level”.
The latter is a reference to the 2007 Christmas Day episode which saw the affair between Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Max Branning (Jake Wood) being exposed.

At the time, Laura Branning (Madeline Duggan) played a DVD of Stacey and Bradley Branning’s (Charlie Clements) wedding day and showed Stacey and Max getting intimate before saying ‘I do’.
James told The Mirror: “It is definitely up there with all the Christmasses I’ve read, it’s definitely up there. It will be a massive Christmas.”
“The guys behind the story who have come up with this, they’ve just walloped it.”
The actor also claimed that BBC bosses want a “big EastEnders Christmas” and that they have brought the show back to what “people want from Christmas”.

Show fans got their first taste of the upcoming storyline back in February when a flashforward scene dropped.
At the time, six women, including Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) Stacey and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal)were crowded around a corpse in the Queen Vic.
The group were dressed to the nines and stood beside a decorated traditional tree whilst Stacey had blood on her hands.
Since the flashforward aired, many fans across social media have been having their say on the teased whodunnit mystery.
One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote: “Catching up on @bbceastenders and kind of hoping it’s Keanu laying on that floor at Christmas!”
A second wrote: “With Dean Wicks returning this week, is it clear he is quite certain to be the dead man on Christmas Day in The Vic?” ”At this point, I wouldn’t care if Nish, Dean, or Keanu is dead at Christmas,” commented a third while another wrote: “I call for multiple bodies this Christmas. These men are EVIL.”
