Healthy Halloween pizzas are the ideal meal for tonight – ready in half an hour

Halloween is here and it makes sense to cook a meal that honours the spooky season.

BBC Good Food’s healthy Halloween pizzas by Cassie Best are the ideal dinner for tonight, suitable for Halloween lovers both old and young.

If you’ve got the kids or grandkids over for a spook-tacular evening, let the “little witches and wizards” make their own healthy Halloween dinner with this pizza.

The recipe can be changed depending on your own personal tastes. Feel free to add extra meat and veggie toppings.

Cassie’s recipe serves four but you can amend the quantities and make more pizzas if you have more ghoulish guests.

Ingredients

  • 200g strong white flour
  • 200g strong wholewheat flour
  • One tsp or 7g sachet easy-blend dried yeast
  • 250ml warm water

For the toppings

  • 300g passata
  • One garlic clove, crushed
  • One tbsp olive or rapeseed oil
  • 75g grated mozzarella
  • 10 black olives
  • Handful cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Handful basil leaves, to serve

Method

1. Mix the flours and yeast with a pinch of salt in a food processor fitted with a dough blade. Alternatively, combine in a bowl. Pour in the water and mix to form a soft dough, then work for one minute in a processor or five minutes by hand.

Take out the dough, divide into four pieces and roll out on a lightly floured surface to rounds about 15cm across. Transfer carefully onto heavily oiled baking sheets.

2. Mix the passata with the garlic, oil and a little seasoning. Spread the mixture evenly over the dough to within 2cm of the edges.

3. Scatter with mozzarella. Slice the olives and tomatoes in half. Place an olive in the centre of each pizza to make the spider’s body. Cut the rest into little legs and arrange them around the spider bodies. Scatter the tomatoes wherever you like on the pizza. Leave to rise for 20 mins. Heat oven to 240C/ fan 220C/gas nine or the highest setting.

4. Bake the pizza for 10-12 minutes until it is crisp and golden around the edges. Add some basil to garnish. Slice up and enjoy, happy Halloween!
