Inside Only Connect host Victoria Coren's marriage to famous husband she decided to marry just hours after meeting | The Sun

TELEVISION host Victoria Coren has opened up about her marriage with her famous husband, saying she knew they would get hitched just hours after meeting him.

The Only Connect host, 51, is known for presenting the BBC quiz show where competing teams have to identify what two seemingly unconnected clues have in common.

In keeping with her glamorous life, she met her husband at a film premiere in 2007 – and it was love at first sight for the couple.

Her partner David Mitchell is better known as the obnoxious and awkward Mark Corrigan from Peep Show.

However, it seems the man behind the character possesses charm the Croydon resident does not, as Victoria was quickly smitten after being introduced to him by comedian pal David Baddiel.

She said: "He specifically said to me, 'There’s David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I’ll get the ball rolling by introducing you.

GAME CHANGER

Only Connect blows fans' minds with 'impossible' question – do you know it?

"I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I would probably marry him."

Mitchell later admitted to The Guardian that he felt the same way, and was willing to wait a long time to date the show host as she dealt with her father's death.

"I waited three years," he laughed. "Isn’t that weird? Aren’t I odd? I can’t explain it other than to say I couldn’t do anything else. If only I’d known I just had to wait three years…I would gladly have suffered 10 times as much."

The romantic proposed to Victoria just two years after their first date, and the pair have been happily married for over a decade now.

David Mitchell has even joked that he would have asked her to tie the knot even sooner if he didn't think that was "mad".

Unlike so many celebs who end up divorcing, years on from their wedding day and one child later the couple are still "hopelessly in love".

In one of his books, the comedian penned an emotional paragraph about how lucky he feels to have met his wife, saying: "She’s not only too wonderful, she’s too right for me.

"She’s funny, bright, sexy, nervous and confident in ways that could have been meant for me. I feel very lucky.

"I am just incredibly proud that someone like Victoria wants to be with me. She has these amazing qualities, but fundamentally, we clicked. I fell in love with her."

The sentiment is mutual, as the gameshow host also shared during an interview that she thinks her and David are "the ideal match".

She told the Telegraph: "I mean, he's a hugely successful television comedian, he could have had a gorgeous 24-year-old skinny wife with a tiny nose and a string bikini, but he chose me! Me!

"I am filled with this bizarre mix of thinking David could have done a lot better than me and feeling we're so alike and complement each other so wonderfully that we are the ideal match and couldn't possibly be with anyone else."
