EXCLUSIVE: Elijah Blue Allman said mom Cher failed to give him emotional support after he nearly died of Lyme disease and he relied on her famous exes Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise as father figures, in unearthed interview
- In an unearthed 2014 interview, Elijah Blue Allman revealed how his near-fatal bout with Lyme disease took a toll on his relationship with superstar mother Cher
- Allman, now 47, admitted that providing emotional support is ‘not one of her strong suits’ and that his condition ‘was very hard for my mother to accept’
- The interview took place mere weeks after he and now estranged wife Marieangela King married – which Cher also didn’t acknowledge, he claimed
Elijah Blue Allman slammed his mother Cher for her lack of emotional support during his ‘dark’, near-fatal battle with Lyme disease, in a newly unearthed interview.
Allman – who DailyMail.com revealed this week is back in rehab for his heroin addiction – spoke about how the health scare took a toll on his relationship with his superstar mom and his half-brother, Chaz Bono.
He also revealed that he had heard nothing from his mother about his marriage even though the interview was conducted more than seven weeks after he tied the knot with singer Marieangela King.
When asked whether Cher had given him her opinion on the marriage, he told interviewer Hugo Daniel: ‘No. Crickets.’
And as for his half-brother Chaz, he said the two of them had a rocky relationship: ‘We don’t really talk at the moment, which happens over the years.’
‘For me, the most important thing is that people should be happy in their own right, whatever that means,’ he added.

Allman, now 47, spoke just a few weeks after he and wife Marieangela King (pictured) had eloped – of which his mother was also not supportive, he claimed
The interview resurfaced days after DailyMail.com revealed Cher had sent Allman back to rehab after her drug-addled son had to be removed from Hollywood’s famed Chateau Marmont – where he had been living – on September 16 (pictured)
‘If not talking is going to make someone happier then I’m fine with that. You don’t need my vanity or ego served. If it helps, fine, let’s not talk.
‘I think that the battle that I have gone through over the last couple of years in Germany was a lot for my family to accept and to deal with,’ he continued.
DailyMail.com revealed on Wednesday that King, 36, claimed in divorce papers that Cher had arranged for four men to kidnap Elijah from a New York hotel room on their ninth wedding anniversary, just as they were trying to save their marriage.
Cher’s spokesman has not responded to the claim.
In the January 2014 interview, Elijah, now 47 – who had an ax by his chair as he was going through an off-grid phase – told how his Lyme disease took a severe toll on his health as well as his relationship with his family.
‘It was very hard for my mother to accept,’ he said.
‘I am sure it is very anxiety-causing and nerve-wracking when someone falls ill and could potentially not be around,’ he said.
‘But I would say however you have got to stay in the trench emotionally and be with that person through the whole step of that fight.’
When Daniel asked him if his mother had failed to give him emotional support, he replied: ‘That’s not one of her strong suits.

Despite their differences, DailyMail.com learned Cher is still concerned over his wellbeing and in early September had hired a caretaker to keep an eye on her troubled son
‘We’ve had a dynamic like that going back a long time, so it would just figure that something like this would be the same way.
‘However, that is not to say that she wasn’t supportive, which she was.
‘But in that bitter cold of where you really don’t know if you are going to wake up and be alive tomorrow, you need extra from everybody. You need copious amounts.
‘You absolutely need unconditional parental love in those dark hours.’
Elijah, whose father was Cher’s second husband, the late rock legend Gregg Allman, said that his illness was ‘very hard’ for his mother to accept because many people thought Lyme disease wasn’t real.
‘The kind of going notion for a lot of years was that it was imaginary – because that’s just easier,’ he said.
Eventually he went to Cologne, Germany, where he got more aggressive treatment than he could receive in the United States.
‘What got me better was definitely my doctor in Cologne’s treatment,’ he said.
‘It was all done naturally. They use a lot of stuff that’s not done here. There was a little bit of everything in there, from homeopathic to snake poison enzymes.’
It was three months into his treatment that he first met King, who had been introduced to him by a mutual friend.
Elijah is the son of Cher’s second husband, the late rock great Gregg Allman, who died in 2017
The musician, who went on to front the rock band Deadsy, spoke fondly of his mother’s famous exes, including Val Kilmer (pictured left with Cher and a three-year-old Allman in 1979) and Tom Cruise – who he credited for standing in as father figures

‘We started talking,’ said Elijah. ‘We would talk for about a month and then finally decided to go on a blind date one night and we met out in front of the domed cathedral.’
In the interview, Elijah appeared to be going out of his way not to criticize his mother. He said her active love life had helped him as he was growing up.
‘I was lucky to have a lot of those men who were my mom’s boyfriends – from (Val) Kilmer to Tom Cruise.
‘I was lucky to have them in my life because my dad wasn’t around, so I really kind of looked to them,’ he added, saying other boyfriends including bagel baker Rob Camilletti, movie producer Josh Donen and Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora were also influences.
‘Richie and I would sit up all night playing guitar. He would play me some really pivotal things that shaped who I became as a musician,’ said Elijah who went on too front the rock band Deadsy.
At the end of the interview, he introduced his wife to the camera and she sits on his knee and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
And Marieangela confirmed that she hadn’t seen Cher since their wedding.

Allman married Marieangela, 36, who goes by the name Queenie in the rock band KING, in 2013. He filed for divorce in 2021
In her declaration to the court last year, Allman’s now estranged wife Marieangela revealed they spent 12 days in New York City together working on their marriage when four men suddenly came to their hotel room to remove him
‘I don’t really know Cher as a mother-in-law because I haven’t seen her since we eloped,’ she said.
She called Cher ‘interesting, complicated and different.’
Cher, 77, has long had a contentious relationship both with Elijah and her daughter-in-law Marieangela
‘Mostly we had good times together,’ she said.
Elijah is currently in rehab in Pasadena after passing out at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood.
He had been staying at the famed hotel – where John Belushi died from a drug overdose in 1982 – since March.
Cher, 77, had planned an intervention on the day he passed out, sources tell DailyMail.com.
Worried hotel staff had regularly reached out to Cher due to his apparent drugged-out appearance, insiders tell DailyMail.com.
She was pictured with her bodyguard going to visit him at the hotel in March soon after he moved in.
‘Virtually every morning and afternoon Elijah could be seen in front of the hotel on the sidewalk either leaning against the wall or sitting on the sidewalk smoking,’ said one.
‘He would come out with a full cigarette and by the time he had finished it, he would be passed out.
‘It always looked like it was dipped in something. He looked strung-out and messy, like he was a homeless person living on the streets.’
Worried-looking Cher and her bodyguard visited the Chateau Marmont in March, soon after Elijah had started living there
After the New York hotel incident last November, Elijah spent six months living at the Chateau Marmont, the landmark Sunset Boulevard hotel where Animal House star John Belushi died from a drug overdose in 1982
In early September Cher hired a caretaker to keep an eye on her troubled son, who had taken to leaving the hotel and wandering down the street.
‘The caretaker would sit out in the entrance area of the hotel just waiting to see where and what Elijah was up to.’
We also revealed this week that Marieangela had alleged in divorce papers that four men, one of whom told her they were acting on Cher’s orders, had gone to a hotel in New York last November and abducted Elijah on the eve of their anniversary.
She said they had been trying to patch up their marriage at the time.
‘Given the proper time I believe that we will reconcile,’ she said.
In a declaration to the court, filed four days after the alleged kidnapping, she added: ‘I am currently unaware of my husband’s wellbeing or whereabouts,’ although she added that he was in ‘lockdown at a treatment facility that is undisclosed to me’.
She finished the statement with the words ‘I understand his family’s efforts to make sure he is well, and I want what is best for my husband.’
The divorce is still pending and a three-times postponed conference to set a date for a hearing is now scheduled for October 27.
