Time travel is real… at least according to a photograph dug up and shared in an Icelandic Facebook group.
A photograph posted into the group in 2016 appears to show a man having a natter on a mobile phone which in theory is nothing out of the ordinary – except the photograph was taken during World War Two. The snap was taken in 1943 in Reykjavík, Iceland, but shows a man seemingly using a modern mobile phone.
He has a slight look of concern on his face, as US soldiers pass by and mill in the street, some wearing trench coats to deal with the Icelandic chill. Posting in the Facebook group Old Photos, Kristján Hoffmann said: "From there you can see Bankastræti, Lækjargata and Austurstræti. This photo was taken in 1943, 73 three years ago," according to local outletDV.

The image gained attention at the time, the outlet reported, with many noticing what appears to be the time traveller leaning against the wall. He wears a tan trench coat and a flat cap with a look of concern or unease on his face while holding his non “phone-carrying” left hand to his stomach. Around him, others walk around unphased.
Kristján wrote in the post: "The American army is taking over Icelandic splendour, as you can see. One thing that draws attention to this beautiful picture is that above the window, in the corner in the middle of the picture, a man is leaning and is on a cell phone."
According to DV, he added: "I don't know what to say, I don't think he's just talking on the phone. He's in a stupor, standing alone and wearing a different headdress than the others and a scarf and acting like we would do today. He has an overview of the square and nothing like having a conversation with someone on a smartphone."
