Meerkats are known for their strong social bonds, and have a unique journey into the world.
Females have a 2.5-month pregnancy before their pups are born underground, safely away from any lurking predators.
For their first 10 days, the pups are blind, deaf, and nearly bald.
However, as the weeks pass, the pups begin to explore their surroundings – albeit under the watchful eye of their parents.
By the three-week mark, the pups begin to venture out of the confines of their burrow.
Then, between four and six weeks of age, they begin to experiment with solid foods, marking a vital step towards their eventual independence.

And by sixteen weeks, the pups transform into self-sufficient individuals.
Ms Booth said: ‘Our pups emerged from their den on the 11th of August, so we estimate that they are just over a month old.
‘We had been hearing some little squeaks from the burrow in the weeks prior, so we were hopeful that some pups were on the way.’
Blair Drummond Safari Park is located near Stirling, and is on a mission to preserve some of the world’s most endangered species.
The park provides specialist care for over 300 animals – many of which are endangered in the wild.
It also participates in a number of endangered species breeding programmes.
