Police have arrested two men, aged 33 and 66, on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire destroyed the Crooked House pub in Hilmley, Staffordshire
The fire at the Crooked House pub destroyed the building dubbed Britain’s wonkiest pub before it was unexpectedly demolished just a few days later.
The historic pub was first built as a farmhouse in 1765 before subsidence caused one side of the building to sink into the ground in the early 19th century.
Fire crews were alerted to a blaze at the pub at around 10pm on August 5 just days after the building was sold to a ‘private buyer’.
Construction crews were later seen entirely demolishing the ruins of the pub just 48 hours later.
‘We continue to appeal to anyone with any information which could help us to get in touch. Call 101, quoting incident 761 of 5 August or message us using Live Chat on our website – www.staffordshire.police.uk,’ the police force said.
