Kate Middleton is said to have become an unlikely support for Prince Harry to lean on as sources claim that the Princess of Wales feels sorry for her brother-in-law and has been calling him.
Since stepping back from his role as a senior royal and moving to the US with wife Meghan Markle, Harry has published his memoir Spare, released Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, and given various high-profile interviews – most famously with Oprah Winfrey – all making explosive claims about his family.
In Spare, he claimed that his brother Prince William had screamed at him and pushed him into a dog bowl during a bitter row, and that his father King Charles had been distant during his childhood – while Meghan has said Kate made her cry days before her wedding.
But despite the family rift, a source has told Closer that Kate, who was previously a close friend of Harry's, is continuing to support him with "late-night calls" in the hope that one day they can build bridges.
The source claimed that she wanted to "keep those lines of communication open" with the aim that it could "pave the way for long-term peace with the whole family".
However, the source also said that William was not part of the calls and had "made it very clear that he is not yet ready to sit down with Harry" after his allegations about their family.
The source claimed that Kate "feels very sorry for him right now" and had been finding it tough watching him go through such a difficult time.
They added: "It’s very hard for Kate to watch Harry go through so much very obvious stress and rejection, but during their late-night calls, she’s been telling him it will all be OK in the end."
Harry's HRH title has now been removed from his biography on the Royal Family official website, three years after he and Meghan relocated to America where they live with their children Archie and Lilibet.
Meghan's HRH title was removed at the time that they chose to step back from their duties, but Harry's has only now been removed.
In January 2020, Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing that Harry and Meghan would no longer use the HRH title. It read: "The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family."
Meanwhile, a body language expert has shrugged off claims of a split between Harry and Meghan, saying he looked relaxed and happy on a trip to Japan.
