A special effects makeup artist is leaving people baffled with a bizarre skincare ‘hack’ that sees a full face of glam peeled away in one go.
Social media users were stunned and confused by a video of American influencer Tasha Caroline (@tasha_caroline_) taking off her full face of cosmetics as if it were a peel-off mask.
The clip has now resurfaced Reddit, where it was posted with the caption: ‘When I forget to wash my face before bed’.
In it, the special effects influencer – who often creates intricate costume-esque looks using SFX tools – wrote: ‘Skin care hack….. save thousands on unnecessary cleaners.’
The footage, without the added text, originates from a TikTok by American influencer Tasha Caroline ( @tasha_caroline_ ), posted in January 2022
The video starts with her piercing her lips with a pair of tweezers and pulling at the area around it as she goes on to undo her hard work, peeling off her makeup which looks like a second skin as it comes away.
Her post racked up more than 3.2 million likes as commenters expressed their horror and fascination at the trick.
And it would seem that, more than a year later, people are still taken aback by the video.
‘I’m a 37 year old woman and I came to the comments to see if this is an thing or if it’s fake,’ one wrote. ‘It’s gotta be fake, right? Please tell its fake!’
‘I’m a 46 year old woman and I am confused and horrified,’ a second agreed.
‘No. As a woman, I have no idea how that happened,’ another added. ‘I was actually scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else knew lol.
Another viewer remarked: ‘Cool, it looks like one of those spy agents undercover mask thingy.’
‘That’s like Mission Impossible face mask style,’ one wrote.

However – as suggested by a handful of eagle-eyed viewers – a make-up artist has confirmed that this is not something you can achieve with your classic foundation and setting spray.
Speaking to FEMAIL, MUA Olivia Todd (@oliviatoddmakeup) revealed that it’s clear the woman is well-versed is special effects looks.
‘This is either a thin layer of silicone or liquid latex used in prosthetics, that has set and acted as a outer skin layer for makeup application,’ the expert explained.
‘This mimics the look of skin and effectively creates the illusion that it is skin when makeup is applied.’
Olivia says that the tell-tale sign is the area around her lips.
‘This is sealed over the opening of the mouth,’ she said. ‘Once the seal is broken and air gets in the layer wrinkles and changes.’
