Why Chelsea will be desperate to sell Mason Mount TODAY as details of Man Utd's strong bargaining position emerge | The Sun

CHELSEA will be eager to get the sale of Mason Mount to Manchester United wrapped up today.

The Blues agreed to sell their homegrown ace to the Red Devils yesterday for an initial £55million, plus £5m in add-ons.

United had three bids rejected for Mount, with the deal looking in danger of falling through.

But the two clubs got together yesterday to finally agree a fee.

Chelsea will be eager to get the deal completed before the end of today, which has been dubbed an "unofficial transfer deadline day" by those in the trade.

That's because transfers need to be completed by the end of June in order for the fees to count towards 2022-23 Financial Fair Play compliance.

Chelsea have spent around £600m since Boehly replaced Roman Abramovich, with January seeing the likes of Enzo Fernandez arriving for a £106m fee.

But having clawed back £65m for Havertz and now £60m for Mount – in addition to Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy moving to Saudi Arabia – Chelsea are clearing the decks for more signings in the coming months.

Mount, 24, quickly emerged as Erik ten Hag's top midfield target this summer.

The England midfielder had one year remaining on his Chelsea contract, with the Blues failing to agree new terms.
