Meghan Trainor Slams the ‘Brutal’ Warnings of Motherhood: ‘I’ve Become the Best Version of Me’

Being a new mom can feel overwhelming. There are so many things to learn and decisions to make before bringing a new baby home — like what are they going to eat? Where will they sleep? How do you get them to stop crying?! And although experienced moms are (probably) trying to help with their tips, it can be extremely discouraging when they say things like, “sleep now because you won’t get to once baby’s here!” (*Insert eye roll emoji here*).

On Monday’s episode of the High Low with EmRata podcast, Trainor opened up about motherhood with fellow mom Emily Ratajkowski. “It is fantastic,” Trainor aid about motherhood. “It is the best thing that ever happened to me. I knew it would be good — Oh, I just got a knock on my belly! — I knew it would be good, but I didn’t know it would be sooo good.”

Trainor, who is mom to son Riley, 2, and pregnant with baby number two with husband Daryl Sabara, explained that the scary things people told her about parenting were simply not true.

“The warnings were brutal,” the “Mother” singer admitted. “They’re like, ‘You’re gonna have no sleep. You’re gonna lose yourself. And your life ends and theirs begins.’ And I was like, ‘No dude. Opposite.’ Like, I go to bed earlier now. I get more sleep now if anything. And I’ve only become the best version of me because I have inspiration, like, times one hundred.”

She went on, “I look at that kid, and I’m like, ‘I want to be the best me I’ve ever been for you. And show you that you want something, go get it. You work hard for it, you can go get it. You look at that kid, and you’re like, ‘I’ll do anything for you.’”

“For anyone out there who wants to have a baby, and you’re like, oh no, my career isn’t where I want it to be. A baby won’t ruin it, it’ll make it better,” she said in a new episode of Spotify’s Best Advice podcast. “Babies bring luck. I promise. I promise, everything will work out.”

She added, “And I’m finally at a place that’s like, no dude, babies bring luck. Everyone will adjust around me. You’re OK. If you want a baby, have a baby.”

Now, Trainor and Sabara are gearing up for baby boy number 2, and they already have a named picked out!

During a recent interview with TODAY, the “Made You Look” singer shared, “We picked this name out when I was 10 weeks pregnant. We’re very fast [at picking names]. We’re like, ‘This is what it will be’ and then we start introducing my stomach as the name. Everyone warned us, ‘Don’t tell the world because they’ll rip you apart!’ But I like announcing [the name] on Instagram with a baby photo.”

She also hinted that they love “B” names. We can’t wait to hear what it is!

Trainor is also really looking forward to seeing her baby boy become a big brother! She shared an Instagram video last week of her and Riley hugging in matching yellow sweaters.

“So excited for Riley to have a baby brother,” she wrote over the video. In her caption, she added, “Cant wait for our family to grow 😭.”

Her family is so cute. Speaking from experience, motherhood just keeps getting better — and I bet it’ll be the same for Trainor, too!
