All the Craziest Celebrity Pregnancy Cravings

If we’re being totally transparent, the entire experience of pregnancy can be pretty strange. Some things happen to your body that are magical, yes — but other things happen that you simply will never fully wrap your brain around. Effectively, your body starts calling the shots and you’re just along for the ride. And never does that feel truer than when you’re dealing with pregnancy cravings.

There’s a reason these pregnancy-specific tastes are parodied so much in film and TV: They are really that wild. During my first pregnancy, I would routinely send my husband to the store late at night to stock up on canned spinach and vinegar, which I would essentially eat as though (combined) they were like a bowl of cereal. During my second pregnancy, there were not enough Now and Later candies in the world to satisfy my pregnancy sweet tooth.

It’s fascinating, right? It’s also a great equalizer. Though celebrities may not share many day-to-day issues with the rest of us, they’re at the whim of their hormones during pregnancy too — and this makes for some pretty wacky celebrity cravings. Since it makes us feel better to know we aren’t the only ones eating things like buttered Pop-Tarts during pregnancy (yes, one celebrity really ate those while expecting her first child), we rounded up some of the funniest and most far-out celebrity pregnancy cravings we could find.

  • Kate Middleton

Image Credit: Daniel Leal – WPA Pool/Getty Images

Kate Middleton may have had a taste for spicy and savory dishes when she was pregnant with Prince George, but the story behind one of her reported cravings is nothing but sweet. It’s been said that the Duchess of Cambridge frequented a restaurant near her parents’ home where she ate vegetable curry made by friends Chan and Hash Shingadia. Prince William has also eaten at the restaurant, and the Duke and Duchess became so close with the Shingadias that they were invited to the royal wedding in 2011.

“We’ve really got to know Kate,” Chan said. “She is really caring. She is like a human being, not a celebrity, and she is always a good customer. William is very down to earth.”

  • Kim Kardashian

Image Credit: Michael Buckner for Variety

Kim Kardashian definitely had the most expensive pregnancy craving we’ve ever heard of. The TV personality wanted a slice of cheesecake, but she didn’t want just any cheesecake. She wanted a slice specifically from Hotel Costes in Paris. And so she — like any sane person in this situation — hopped on a plane.

“I flew in, maybe like a couple of months ago, just to have a last hurrah of all the food I’m not going to be able to have for a while,” she told Vogue. “And I get there and they tell me they didn’t have it!”

  • Serena Williams

Image Credit: Gilbert Flores for Variety

What’s weird about Serena Williams’ pregnancy cravings is that they’re not weird at all! In fact, they’re really healthy. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that all the GOAT wanted during her pregnancy was vegetables.

Her then-fiancé Alexis Ohanian shared an Instagram video of himself shopping for veggies for Williams at a Publix on a Friday night.

“I was told there would be cravings. I was not told they would be these,” he said, holding up his loot. “Zucchini, asparagus and…what’s this one called again? Artichoke. There we go. Really? These are her cravings. It’s amazing.”

  • Gigi Hadid

Image Credit: Alberto Rodriguez for Variety

Gigi Hadid was all about everything bagels when she was pregnant. She even had an “everything bagel” cake (made by The Cake Boss!) for her breakfast-themed birthday party.

“That’s my craving,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “I eat an everything bagel a day and so I was already like, so excited that my birthday cake was the everything bagel.”

  • Kylie Jenner

Image Credit: Alberto Rodriguez for Variety

While having the name-brand food is often non-negotiable when it comes to pregnancy cravings, a logical progression is not necessary. While talking to fans on Twitter, Kylie Jenner shared that she wanted Eggo waffles all the time.

“I never liked them before i was pregnant & haven’t had one since i had her. so strange! Lol.”

  • Nicki Minaj

Image Credit: Bryan Bedder for Variety

We are obsessed with the story of Nicki Minaj’s pregnancy cravings. Usually the pregnancy announcement comes first, then we get down to the nitty-gritty of due dates and food preferences. But for the singer, her meal plans are what gave away her pregnancy.

In May 2020, a fan asked on Twitter if she was cooking for herself while quarantining.

“Absolutely,” Minaj said. “Steak. Shrimp. Plus my famous cheeseburgers. So good. Been rlly having red meat cravings then salad cravings with extra jalapeños. Ordered Chkn nachos that didn’t come w/jalapeños. Who does that? Wow.”

Fans were quick to ask if this menu meant there was a bun in the oven, and while Minaj jokingly denied it, she announced her pregnancy with husband Kenneth Petty just two months later.

  • Cardi B

Image Credit: Mark Von Holden for Variety

At first, Cardi B’s pregnancy craving might seem weird. But honestly, it’s kind of genius.

“I hate red Doritos but for some reason i want red Doritos with sour cream and cheese and guacamole,” she tweeted in 2018. “OMG i want it Soo bad but i already ate my limit of junk food today.”

It’s basically next-level chips and guac! We feel you, Cardi B.

  • Angelina Jolie

  • Tina Fey

Image Credit: Nina Westervelt for Variety

Tina Fey told PEOPLE she “had this thing” for Entenmann’s chocolate donuts when she was pregnant with her daughter Alice, and that’s putting it lightly.

“Somewhere during my pregnancy, I gained something like nine pounds in two weeks and my doctor was like, ‘You know what it might be? Are you drinking a lot of juice?’” she said. “I was like, ‘Yeah. That must be it.’ I was eating like a box a day of Entenmann’s donuts!”

  • Jennifer Garner

Image Credit: Michael Buckner for Variety

Jennifer Garner was all about junk food when she was pregnant with her third child, Samuel Affleck who she shares with ex Ben Affleck. Junk food is a super normal craving, but it was so abnormal for Garner, that her daughters Violet and Seraphina had no idea what was happening.

“My kids had never seen Doritos before. They would say, ‘Mom, where did you get that orange chip? I really want that.’

  • Niki Taylor

Taco Bell may be a pretty normal vice, but it’s a totally unexpected meal for a supermodel. Well, the fast food chain was calling Niki Taylor’s name when she was pregnant with her son Rex. She admitted to ordering three hard tacos, a bean burrito, and Sierra Mist, and we say good for you, Niki. Go ahead, live más.

  • Ellie Goulding

Image Credit: Gilbert Flores for Variety

Singer, songwriter, and healthy eater Ellie Goulding had some pretty out-of-character cravings. We’re talking canned sardines, Weetabix Minis, and McDonald’s (gasp!).

  • Victoria Beckham

Image Credit: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

During her fourth and final pregnancy, Victoria Beckham had a decidedly posh (wink wink) pregnancy craving: toast with marmalade! The Spice Girl also had a craving for animals. But no, she didn’t want a cheeseburger to eat. She wanted cats to own!

“When I was pregnant, I just wanted to get lots and lots of animals, for some reason,” she said. “We talked about cats but David said absolutely not.”

  • Jenna Fischer

Image Credit: David Livingston / Stringer

  • Mariah Carey

Image Credit: Theo Wargo/Getty Images for Global Citizen

Nick Cannon would frequent the nearby 7-Eleven to satisfy Mariah Carey’s cravings when she was pregnant with their twins Moroccan and Monroe. The then-couple would always share cherry-flavored Big Gulp Slurpees. Sticking with the fruit theme, Carey also craved candy apples. Of course, cravings never happen at convenient times, so Cannon had to buy candy coating and be prepared to make the treat at any time of day.

“[Because] where am I supposed to find candy apples at 2 a.m.?” he joked.

  • Mindy Kaling

Image Credit: Alberto Rodriguez for Variety

Mindy Kaling was all about jelly doughnuts during her pregnancy, so she was understandably ecstatic when Ellen DeGeneres gifted her a huge tray of the treats.

“Oh my gosh,” the actor and producer said, in awe that DeGeneres had found authentic jelly doughnuts. “In L.A. every time you try and get a doughnut, it’s full of matcha or bacon or something. This is amazing. Thank you … It’s my favorite thing and not every place has them.”

  • Tia Mowry

Image Credit: Gilbert Flores for Variety

The [perhaps understandable] cliché is that partners are so over having to deal with the mama-to-be’s pregnancy craving. That was not the case for Tia Mowry. The actor’s husband and son would wait on her hand and foot. Literally! She told Essence her son gave her foot massages and would ask if she had eaten yet. Meanwhile, her husband would indulge her in her kimchi fried rice cravings and “wanted to feed her every day all day.”

“I enjoy getting all the food for her,” husband Cory Hardrict said. “I just want to give her fried chicken with red beans and rice and some chitlins!”

  • Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi

Snooki had a hankering for fruit when she was pregnant. That may sound like a good thing, but the Jersey Shore star took it to another level.

“[During my first pregnancy], I would eat so much pineapple that my tongue would burn from the acid,” she told Us Weekly.

  • Ellie Kemper

Ice cream is about as normal of a pregnancy craving (heck, an anytime craving) as they come. But Ellie Kemper took it to a whole other level. And honestly, we respect it.

“I’ve been eating a lot of ice cream,” she told Conan O’Brian. “It’s gotten to the point where … I feel like an alcoholic, but it’s for Ben & Jerry’s. I go [to the bodega] every night. And the guy looks at me … and he’s so kind. But he knows [I’m getting more ice cream]. I peruse the avocados, and I’m like, ‘Oh maybe I’ll get an apple.’ And then, of course, I goi to the freezer. I said on Tuesday, ‘I can’t get ice cream again until Friday, you have to hold me to it.’ And then I came in on Thursday night, and he looked at me and he just slowly shook his head.”

  • Christine Quinn

Image Credit: Gilbert Flores for WWD

Christine Quinn had a laundry list of cravings and aversions when she was pregnant. In an interview with Us Weekly, the Selling Sunset star said she was no longer interested in some of her favorite foods (sorry, eggs!). Instead, she was going after pizza, chocolate, soda (“tons of Dr. Pepper”) and fruit juices.

“I mean, a lot of the stuff that I already loved before, but now it’s amped up and I’m like, ‘I must have this now!’” she said.

When it comes to pizza, Quinn told PEOPLE her pregnancy made her very particular. She had to have her ‘za with ranch.

“But not just any pizza,” the outlet clarified. “It must be Pizza Hut pizza!”

  • Hannah Jeter

Image Credit: Noam Galai/Getty Images for Tribeca Festival

Hannah Jeter didn’t eat meat before she was pregnant, but her body did a full 360 when she and her husband Derek Jeter were expecting their first child.

“Now I crave beef jerky all the time,” she told Extra TV. “I don’t discriminate I eat pretty much everything too now.”

That comment scored the model a lifetime supply of beef jerky, so on an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Derek mentioned some of Hannah’s other cravings.

“If anybody’s listening, she really craves ice cream, and strollers,” the former Yankees shortstop joked.

“She really loves Rolls Royces,” Fallon added. “She’s really craving them right now.”

  • Holly Willoughby

Image Credit: Stuart C. Wilson/Getty Images

English TV presenter Holly Willoughby wanted icing when she was pregnant, but of course, her body craved it in the most inconvenient way possible. There was no way she was going to be eating spoonfuls from a container.

“When I was pregnant I used to buy like cupcakes, like 12 of them in a box and I used to lick the icing off and sling the sponge…” she said. “It was all I wanted!”

  • Chrissy Teigen

After revealing she was expecting her third child, Esti, with husband John Legend, Chrissy Teigen took to Instagram stories to share some of her cravings with fans.

“I’m eating so much sour candy that my tongue is falling off,” the 34-year-old said. And the Cravings author went on to share what else she’s currently obsessed with.

“I’m really crazy addicted to Blow Pops right now, mainly green apple. Also, ham-and-cheddar Lunchables. I heat up each piece of meat so I don’t get Listeria, because you’re not supposed to have deli meat pregnant.”

  • Amy Schumer

Image Credit: Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency/Sipa USA.

Amy Schumer was open about her pregnancy journey, documenting all the ups and downs on her HBO Max series, Expecting Amy, and clueing us into what foods she was craving while pregnant with baby Gene.

“I really just craved comfort food from when I was growing up,” the 39-year-old comedian shared on the What to Expect podcast.

“I wanted the food my mom made me while I was sick which was like Campbell’s chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese.”

  • Katy Perry

  • Eva Amurri Martino

Shortly after announcing her third pregnancy in September 2019, Susan Sarandon’s daughter, Eva Amurri Martino, took to her Instagram story to give a glimpse of her pregnancy craving. “My pregnancy MO is ‘all the condiments all the time,’” she confessed, adding, “This is the jalapeno sauce from Trader Joe’s.”

  • Alicia Keys

During her pregnancy with son Genesis, Alicia Keys couldn’t get enough fruit. Sounds normal, right? Except for the fact that Keys wanted her fruit prepared in a very specific way. “I’ve had this strange craving for roasted fruit, like roasted cherries and grilled bananas. And that sounds crazy, but it’s real easy. You put it on what you make a panini on and you grill the banana and it’s amazing,” she told Us Weekly.

  • Alyssa Milano

With her first child, son Milo, Alyssa Milano reached for broccoli when hunger struck. But, as she told Canada.com, her second pregnancy (with daughter Elizabella) was a different story. “This time around, it’s lentils and orange juice.”

  • Amanda Seyfried

Sometimes it isn’t necessarily the food you crave that’s strange so much as it is the way you crave it. Just ask Amanda Seyfried, who ‘fessed up to her peculiar pregnancy craving. “I eat cottage cheese,” she told W Magazine. “But it’s embarassing when I eat it … I don’t know why. I feel that I need to eat it alone. It’s a very strange thing.”

  • Ashley Graham

  • Behati Prinsloo

When supermodel Behati Prinsloo was expecting her second child with husband Adam Levine, her go-to snack was fruit. But not just any fruit. In her Instagram story, she revealed that she couldn’t get enough of apple slices sprinkled with Tajin seasoning — a Mexican seasoning salt made with chile powder and dehydrated lime. Um, yum?

  • Beyoncé

In a 2011 interview with Life & Style, Queen Bey’s mom, Tina Knowles, said the singer had one major pregnancy craving: waffles! And, admittedly, that’s not crazy. Who doesn’t want waffles all the time? But Beyoncé makes the crazy pregnancy roundup for her rumored cravings! Although she has since debunked the notion, the widely circulating word during her pregnancies was that she doused everything in ketchup. Blech! We don’t blame her for sticking to breakfast food (with syrup, not ketchup).

  • Blake Lively

One of the funniest things about pregnancy cravings is that they often include two foods that, separately, sound amazing. It’s in the combination where things get weird. Take, for instance, Blake Lively, who reportedly sends husband Ryan Reynolds out to fetch “organic hand-churched pumpkin-flavored ice cream and small-batch pickles” when she’s preggo (via The Mirror). Granted, Blake Lively herself has not directly confirmed this craving. But, c’mon, doesn’t it sound exactly like something she’d eat?

  • Carrie Underwood

Country superstar Carrie Underwood reverts to Freshman year eating habits when she’s expecting. Chatting with Rachael Ray in 2014, she admitted, “I think I give myself license to have things I might not normally have. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and I’ll be like, ‘Man, I’m hungry’ and then I’ll get up and have a midnight snack, which I’ve never done before. I ate Pop-Tarts. I haven’t done that since college.”

  • Claudia Schiffer

You can take the girl out of Germany, but you can’t take the Germany out of the girl! During her pregnancy in 2010, she confessed to Vogue U.K. that she craved proper German beer during her pregnancy. And while she didn’t drink the hard stuff, she nipped the cravings with the non-alcoholic version.

  • Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin’s babies apparently had similar preferences in utero. Speaking with E! News in 2016, she revealed, “My biggest craving with this pregnancy is banana peppes. The last pregnancy, I was all about jalapenos, which aren’t very far from the banana tree.”

  • Hilary Duff

Baby gets what baby wants! Or, in this case, Mama’s technically the one making demands. In 2018, Hilary Duff and fiance Matthew Koma revealed that she sent him to six stores to find a very specific pregnancy-craving candy. “Good & Plenty — not [to be confused with] Mike and Ikes,” said Koma, before Duff apologized, adding, “Mike and Ikes suck.”

  • Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson has never been one to hold back the truth, even when it involves something super bizarre — like her pregnancy eating habits. “I had a buttered Pop Tart this morning,” she told Extra while she was pregnant with her first daughter, Maxwell. “Random … I’m eating a lot of stuff that I ate in my childhood. Kraft Mac n’ Cheese, Pop Tarts, Cap’n Crunch. I give in to my cravings. I’m like ‘Yeah, I can do it. We’ll worry about the rest afterwards.’”

  • Joanna Gaines

Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines craves a wide variety of good, old-fashioned comfort food when she’s pregnant. “Woke up this morning at 2:30 AM and was craving Fruity Pebbles, a pimento cheese sandwich, chicken spaghetti, deviled eggs, and ranch dressing. Didn’t have any of that so I made myself some cookies,” she shared on Instagram during her pregnancy with baby Crew.

  • Kourtney Kardashian

This Kardashian wasn’t ashamed of her pregnancy cravings, even when they led to strange looks. In an interview with Natural Health in 2014, she said, “I develop a thing for Nilla Wafer cookies every time [I’m pregnant]. I have no idea why! I’ve also been into cheese and pickle sandwiches. Everyone thinks I’m gross when I order them.”

  • Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis’ pregnancy craving will make you feel either revolted or hungry. It all depends on how you feel about this particular type of food. “I’m very stereotypical. I eat sauerkraut all day long,” she said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “This is the worst craving to have because sauerkraut smells, and so every time you open up the jar it just reeks in the whole kitchen… It’s not like ice cream where everything smells lovely.”

  • Milla Jovovich

Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich experienced a craving that, quite frankly, sounds a little like something her character would have eaten on the post-apocalyptic franchise. Speaking with Britain’s Grazia magazine (via People), she said, “I was craving bone marrow one day, and I scoured the whole of Paris searching for the leg of a cow. When I finally found what I was looking for, I cut it in half, digging out the yellowish substance, slathering it all over bread.”

  • Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman’s baby bump made her turn to all things acidic. When asked by Access Hollywood‘s Shaun Robinson what she couldn’t get enough of during pregnancy, she replied matter-of-factly, “Anything with vinegar.”

  • Peta Murgatroyd

TBH, we kind of love (and envy) Peta Murgatroyd’s laid-back approach to pregnancy cravings. “I really crave cold ice cream for any time of the day. I could wake up and have it for breakfast, which I have a couple of times,” she admitted to E! News, adding that she also craves salty stuff. “The past months, I was craving pickles and vinegar.”

  • Zoe Saldana

During her pregnancy in 2014, Zoe Saldana alluded to a pregnancy craving combo that might sound off-putting to anyone not dealing with hormonal hunger. “Food just tastes so delicious,” she gushed on The Late, Late Show. “It’s really good because you trick yourself. Working in Hollywood, you trick yourself, going, ‘That burger’s disgusting. A burger is awful,’ but now that you’re pregnant, you’re like, ‘I can eat all of that together at the same time! I can have the pickle with the doughnut and it will probably be life-changing.’” Pickles and donuts together? So preggo.

  • Laura Prepon

For Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon, pregnancy cravings proved to be quite nostalgic. As she explained on Live With Kelly and Ryan in 2017 (via People), her childhood included trips to the deli with her dad for pastrami sandwiches on rye bread and Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry soda. “I haven’t eaten that stuff in years, and since I’ve been pregnant I’ve been craving kind of like this Jewish deli food, with the pickles and the sauerkraut and mustard,” she shared. “So we kind of delve into that.”
