Let’s take ourselves away from the ongoing Doctors storyline for the moment, as we join new kid on the block, Dr Suni Bulsara (Rahul Arya) in a single episode story set within a timeframe of a number of weeks.
We meet Jason (Darryl Mundoma), a troubled teenaged footballer who is in the Adolescent Mental Health Clinic at St Phil’s Hospital after a violent altercation with his mother, Esther (Krissi Bohn). Jason broke her arm after he became angry on learning he had been released from the football academy.
Now he has a session with Suni. But the session ends when Luca finds out that his mother Nina (Wendi Peters) has been caught up in the Letherbridge hotel explosion. The episode is set over the course of a few weeks, of course.
In Session 2, Suni learns more about the pressures Jason is under. That day, he also learns that Nina has bought into the Mill Health Centre and that she has secured him a new job there.
In Suni’s third session with Jason, the young footballer tells him he intends to go to Scotland. But he becomes angered at Suni’s suggestion that his mother controls him.
Can Suni help resolve Jason’s problems?
And how far does the difficult relationship between Jason and Esther mirror the one between Suni himself and his own controlling mother, Nina?
