Oscar Isaac and Pedro Pascal May Be Our Favorite Famous Best Friends
Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac’s friendship goes way back — seriously: The duo met before they were even famous. Pascal and Isaac actually appeared in an off-Broadway play together in 2005. They later worked together on 2019’s “Triple Frontier,” and eventually, Pascal joined Isaac in the Star Wars universe. (Pascal stars in “The Mandalorian,” while Isaac played Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.)
“We have very similar backgrounds,” Pascal told Esquire in April 2022 about their bond. “We’re both children of Latin immigrants, so there’s sort of a cultural familiarity, then at the same time we’re both actors. We have the same dreams. It’s something very special because it can be a lonely journey when you’re out there going after — it sounds corny, but going after your dreams, and to find family along the way.” Pascal joked, “The other side of it is that he’s the younger brother I never wanted.”
Pascal also addressed their friendship in a Jan. 2023 interview with Wired. “I met him through a play we did together in 2005. An off-Broadway show where we were getting $500 a week, before taxes,” he said. When asked about his favorite memory of Isaac, Pascal said, “There’s so many. He’s so naughty. His level of naughtiness onstage during that play, for example. He played a ghost, which meant that the living characters in the story could not see him. I had to do my scenes, and he would physically be there, but because my character couldn’t see him, he could f*ck with me, all in front of live audiences, as much as he wanted, trying to get me to crack up or forget my lines. The memory is simultaneously dark and wonderful.”
For his part, when asked about Pascal in 2022, Isaac was a bit meaner. He playfully told Esquire at the time, “He’s obsessed with me. I try to get away from him, he finds me. Even when I change my number . . . it’s like a disease.”
The two also got into a bit of an argument in the spring of 2022 about their Marvel and Star Wars characters. Isaac told Remezcla in April that if his character, Moon Knight, faced off against Pascal’s Mandalorian, Marc Spector would definitely come out on top. “Moon Knight would definitely win, and who cares if Pedro agrees because it’s fact,” Isaac said. “You can’t argue facts.” Pascal, of course, didn’t agree. “That’s so sweet,” he told the outlet. “Maybe Moon Knight would beat The Mandalorian at Scrabble, but not a fight.”
In a Feb. 2023 interview with MTV UK, Pascal did show some love to Isaac — and to his other famous bestie, Sarah Paulson. Pascal was asked if he was on board with the trend of calling favorite actors daddy and mother, and he affirmed his support. The interviewer asked which actors are daddy and mother for him, and he answered, of course, Isaac and Paulson. The interviewer said she “knew” he would say those two, and he responded, “I know. I’m their b*tch.” That same month, Pascal also posted on Instagram to support Isaac’s starring role in the play “The Sign in Sidney Burstein’s Window,” and seemed to be in attendance at the show.
