Maura Higgins pulled out of the British Fashion Awards at the last minute in a ‘nightmare’ turn of events after deciding her racy outfit was ‘not very appropriate’ for the A-list occasion.

The Love Island star, 32, was preparing to mingle with the great and good of the style world on Monday night, but ‘decided not to go’ just minutes before she was due on the red carpet after not feeling comfortable in her custom-made gown. 

The Irish TV star shared an Instagram clip from her hotel room, wearing a full face of a makeup and the dress in question, which she said she had ‘zero control’ over.

Maura styled her long brunette tresses poker straight as she revealed she was ‘still in the hotel’ when fans were asking where she was. 

Maura said: ‘So guys, everyone is messaging me like, “Where are ya and where are the red carpet pictures?” I’ve had a bit of a nightmare. 

‘So obviously you can see I am fully ready. Glam team are on point as usual. Basically…. the dress, the shoes, everything wasn’t something I’d wear. 

‘I don’t really know what to say, it’s like, I just feel it’s not very appropriate for the Fashion Awards.

‘I obviously do like to go daring, you guys know that, but I just feel, I don’t know. It’s just not right. So yeah, I’ve decided not to go. I’m still in the hotel as you can see.’  

A number of big names at the British Fashion Awards 2022 donned head turning glamorous gowns.

Earlier in the day, the reality star shared a selfie to her Instagram Story while getting glammed up in her hotel room ahead of the star-studded evening.

She added: ‘I obviously do like to go daring, you guys know that but I just feel, I don’t know. It’s just not right. So yeah I’ve decided not to go. I’m still in the hotel as you can see’

Beaming while holding up a piece sign, Maura revealed the designer Scott Henshall, was behind the gown which she disapproved of. 

The penned: ‘BFA tonight… first time to have zero control on my outfit… excited to see what @scott_henshall has designed for me’. 

Designer Scott Henshall burst onto the fashion scene in 1998, at the young age of 22, being the youngest designer to show at London Fashion Week.

Maura has previously opted to go braless in a number of racy red carpet numbers including at this years Pride of Britain Awards and the National Television Awards.
