Minnie Driver asked to fake an orgasm or 'have a real one' in audition

‘I thought I would throw up!’ Minnie Driver claims she felt ‘humiliated’ after being asked to fake an orgasm unless she ‘fancied having a real one’ during audition for chocolate advert in youth

Minnie Driver has claimed she was asked by a director to fake an orgasm unless she ‘fancied having a real one’, while auditioning for a chocolate advert in her youth.

The actress, 52, revealed she was asked to emulate Meg Ryan’s famous scene in When Harry Met Sally in front of a large room of men while eating the confectionary, which made her feel ‘humiliated’ and on the verge of throwing up.

In an extract from her upcoming memoir, Managing Expectations, obtained by The Times, she explained how no script had been provided, which left her naively unsure on what the ‘pervy’ bosses had been expecting her to do.

Shock! Minnie Driver has claimed she felt ‘humiliated’ after being asked to fake an orgasm unless she ‘fancied having a real one’ while auditioning for a chocolate advert in her youth

The Oscar nominee admitted she was desperate to warn the other female hopefuls that they were ‘better than this’, however soon began gurgling, ‘NYESH! NYESH! NYESH!’ through mouthfuls.

Following her first attempt, she detailed walking out of the casting call when asked to re-create her performance more exaggeratedly for Dutch audiences.

Minnie wrote: ‘”No, what I meant to say was I won’t do it again because I will throw up.” They thought I was talking about the chocolate, but it was really my shame at having gone along with the whole grotesquery. And the f***ing chocolate.

‘I thought about all the girls waiting outside. All of us vying for an opportunity that was actually humiliation dressed up in a pick-me! outfit. I wanted to run out there and warn them.

‘I wanted to tell them we were better than this, better than being lunchtime entertainment for a bunch of pervy execs, their perviness sanctioned by this being considered “work”.’

Minnie is currently engaged to her filmmaker fiancé Addison O’Dea and shares a 13-year-old son with ex-boyfriend Timothy J Lea.

She recently opened up about how a doctor told her she was ‘barren’ at the age of 18, before she fell pregnant in at the age of 37.

Awful: She explained how no script had been provided, which left her naively unsure on what the ‘pervy’ bosses had been expecting her to do (pictured in 1993)

The Good Will Hunting star made an appearance on The Healthy Baby Show podcast, where she spoke about her pregnancy journey, including becoming a mother to her son Henry, 13, in 2008.

Speaking candidly she recalled: ‘I was told I couldn’t have children when I was 18.

‘This awful doctor just came into the room and he literally compared my uterus to the u-bend in a toilet and was like, ‘Nothing’s going through there. You won’t be having children.’

‘So I believed him and I believed him through my whole life,’ Minnie continued.

Minnie went on to reveal how the doctor called her ‘barren,’ which she felt was an ‘absurd’ way to describe a woman who was physically unable to carry a child.

‘What a ridiculous thing to tell them that they are empty, if that’s what barren means, it means dead. A barren landscape, without fertility. It’s crazy,’ she explained.

Her pregnancy twenty years later then came as a shocking surprise – as she dismissed the pregnancy signs as symptoms of the flu.

With the pregnancy coming just after her breakup with ex Timothy, explaining: ‘I was like, I’ve got the flu. I had just recently broken up with someone who was nice but wasn’t my partner.

‘I didn’t have kids. I didn’t have a job. I don’t know. And then I found out I was pregnant.’

Despite her unsuspecting nature, Minnie dubbed her son her ‘miracle baby’ and said she ‘loved an adventure’ with it being just that.

Going strong: She is engaged to Addison O’Dea (L) and has her son Henry (R) from a brief romance with her former The Riches writer, Timothy J. Lea (posted June 2020)
