Strictly’s Brendan Cole claims BBC show was fixed to ‘enhance bad boy persona’

Brendan Cole has revealed his "bad boy persona" on Strictly Come Dancing was a result of BBC manipulation following his success on Dancing on Ice.

The professional dancer, 45, has spoken out about what life was like for the professional ballroom dancer during his 15-year career on the beloved TV show.

But after the New Zealand native completed the 14th series of the ITV show, he has lifted the lid on how he was portrayed on the ballroom dancing series.

In a tell-all interview with The Sun, the dad-of-two insisted that BBC bosses only showed one side of his personality, with a heavy focus on his fiery competitive nature.

Brendan told the publication how the ITV show has given him the opportunity to show “the real me and complained that he was forced to play a “tiring” character by former producers on Strictly.

He said: “I came on Dancing on Ice hoping to show people that Strictly only showed one side of me.

"They pushed the narrative for 15 series and it was tiring. That’s actually not me. I muck around a lot and that wasn’t shown – but it is being shown on Dancing on Ice. We’ve all been shown in really lovely lights.”

The doting dad added: “I’m not fiercely competitive. I’m competitive with myself. If I get something wrong or do something that’s not where I can be then I'm immensely peed off with myself.

“If I win or lose it doesn’t matter – but it is nice to win don’t get me wrong. This show has been a really wonderful experience to be a part of and enjoy.”

Daily Star has contacted the BBC for a comment.

It comes after the star took second place in the popular ITV ice skating competition during the grand final last Sunday (March 27).

The TV hunk was unfortunately pipped to the post by fellow dancer Regan Gascoigne and his professional partner Karina Manta as they lifted the coveted ITV trophy.

It comes after Brendan made headlines with his skating partner Vanessa Bauer who was surprised to be partnered up with the ballroom dancer due to their 20-year age gap.

The 25-year-old skater told The Sun how she was used to being paired up with partners closer to her in age, but that the loving dad was her perfect partner.

She told the publication: “The producers really surprised me with the partnership because there is a 20-year age gap.

“I didn’t expect to be with Brendan when obviously there were young guys, like I was partnered with in previous years.

“I was worried at first that we wouldn’t bond, but because we’re both performers and I’m a mature 25-year-old, I'm comfortable.”
