A RETIRED nurse of 108 who survived Spanish flu in 1918-20 says she is “so grateful” to be given the Covid vaccine.
Mary Keir got the Pfizer jab at her care home and said it made her feel “really safe”.
Mum-of-one Mary lived independently until she was 100 then moved into a home in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, South Wales.
She said: “Having this vaccine makes me feel really safe and I’m so very grateful to the scientists who discovered it.”
She has spent lockdown enjoying Zoom calls with her son and daughter-in-law, and likes to play keyboard for fellow residents at parties and Christmas.
Carmarthenshire County Council leaders say the vaccine is now the "first step" in reuniting the elderly with their loved ones.
Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole said: "It’s been a hugely challenging year for everyone particularly for our vulnerable residents and their loved ones who have had limited face to face contact for a very long time.

"We are now a step closer to the light at the end of a very dark tunnel.
"We look forward to more vaccine supplies once they become available so they can be rolled out to all care homes in the county.
"In the meantime we must all be very careful and continue protecting each other by limiting our contact with others, maintaining social distancing, washing our hands frequently and wearing a face mask.”
